Re: High Compression Head Review

On the average, from my dyno running of engines, the 6:1 will produce about 2 hp more than the 5.5:1 head. Not lots of difference but close to 5% more hp.
Good Day!

Re: Loud Thud

The loud "thud" is likely the radius ball pushing the socket assembly apart and the sound occurs when the socket reaches its limit.

The lower part of the socket is held against the ball by...

Re: Cylinder head questions.

The tap may cut away some of the metal and weaken the threads. It is best to use a thread cleaning tool. It looks somewhat like a tap but is designed for its specific use...to clean the threads.

Re: Anyone run a Lion Head

I am running a Lion Speed Head lll on a B engine. I machined the head .074" to increase the compression and increased the clearance around the intake valves. I also rounded the sharp edges in the...

Re: Engine question

Bob,
There are lots of variables as to the parts you use and how comfortable you are with doing some or all of the assembly yourself.

I build engines and I currently have a Burtz kit in my shop...

Re: Engine question

The costs you state above were the introductory amounts if you ordered an engine kit or flywheel before the end of March, 2021.

The current cost is as stated below: (Copied the info from the...

Re: The new Burtz Mosel A engine

Vicky,
I am building virtually the same engine. Only the pistons and carbs will be different. If you would share please, what is your cold oil pressure at idle and warm operating oil pressure. I...

Re: The new Burtz Model A engine

I had time in the shop today to fit the bearings and crank in the Burtz engine I purchased.

Burtz engine # 21020303-0007
The main bearing housing bores were deburred. The parting lines on the...

Re: The new Burtz Mosel A engine

hardtimes, Exactly. In post #44 it looked like the plan was to check the clearance with Plastigage devoid of oil and that would lead to false readings.

My intention is not to rile anyone. The...

Re: The new Burtz Mosel A engine

Chris,
The aluminum foil method works for Babbitt bearings but not so well with insert bearings. The use of Plastigage, as Terry Burtz suggests in his engine building guide, with the insert and...

Re: cleaning 28 gas tank

Install one of the fuel filters that fits into the shutoff valve. The filter goes up into the tank about 1.5" and stops debris like you are describing from blocking the inlet to the shutoff.
Most...

Re: The Ace Mechanic Again

McMimmcs,
I just did a quick calculation. About $700 will get you the new parts you need to get the engine to short block state. Want a new camshaft instead of a re-regrind...add $350.
Pistons,...

Re: The new Burtz Mosel A engine

Just opened my engine kit that arrived today. Pretty impressive casting and machining. I only checked the cylinders so far and they are .0043" larger than the solid skirt pistons I plan to use. I...

Re: Cross country in a Model A preview

I agree with Ray. Many current drivers are not observant of hand signals for making turns. They tend to be watching the rear of your car. Assuming some drivers will follow you too close, they may...

Re: Radiator using water verse antifreeze

I suggest you use 50/50 water antifreeze. I fix or replace about one motor or head each year because someone forgot to drain the water from their system.
I have heard all kinds of stories as to how...

Re: The Terry Burtz 5 main bearing engine blocks are back on track.

I ran some costs out to compare the cost of the new Burtz assembly to a good condition B block.
I recently had a failure on a B block/engine that required I start over. I searched for some time to...

Re: What is Engine 'Break-in'??

Brent,
Specifically: Why raise and lower the engine rpm when breaking in? If done rapidly, from a high rpm by totally closing off the carb., it will draw oil into the rings and promote lubrication...
