Tie rod
I was under my car, getting ready to adjust my toe in, and I noticed that the tie rod turned easily by hand. Not the rod itself, but the ends. Should these be tightened or replaced. How much...

Re: Grinding
So this morning I put Castrol; Axel; GL-5; SAE 85W-140 into my transmission. After driving for a few miles and shifting quite a bit...the problem is solved. I went with nkaminar's suggestion for...

Grinding
I just finished changing all of the fluids after a 2000 mile trip in my A. No issues during the trip, but now I can't shift into 2nd and 3rd without severe grinding. I can get into all gears from a...

Re: Another Horn Question
Thanks for the replies. I'm probably missing something basic. I believe that my horn is being grounded by the headlight bolt rather than the horn button completing the circuit. By using the paper...

Another Horn Question
Hey everyone. I have an issue with a Spartan horn that was given to me by a friend. It works perfectly on my bench using the current 2 horn wires, but when I ground it to my A by mounting or just...

Re: ...what is wrong with my sockets?
I have the same LED's and the same problem. They were great when I first installed them, but they started flickering on the low beams. When I removed them I noticed that the solder bumps; where...

Re: knock during hard acceleration
These responses have really been educational for me. I had assumed that I would just be using the advance like I did with the stock head. I almost always ran about 2/3 to 3/4 advance. Now I’ll try...

Re: knock during hard acceleration
Thanks guys. That was my first guess because I had never driven with the full advance. Full retard and she starts before she turn’s over completely then I normally keep the spark at about 2/3...

knock during hard acceleration
Hey people,
I have 1,500 miles on a rebuild: cylinders sleeved, new babbitts, new Scat crank, tour ground cam, and a 5.5 Snyder head.
I did a 500 mi break-in drive, 100 mi/day, starting at 25 mph...

Re: MMO in the Gas
I have always put 4 oz of MMO per 10 gal of gas when I fill up. I really don't know if I'm getting a benefit, but I don't really care and I'm not going to stop. It is part of my ritual of fueling...

Re: Alignment of Focused Beam LED
I didn't measure mine, either. I used my garage door as my basic target, then took a drive. I had my wife (driving another vehicle) simulate an oncoming vehicle to check that I wasn't shining into...

Re: valve guide
Since you're already planning on taking it to a machine shop, I would recommend having hardened valve seats installed. It's not too difficult to then to install modern guides and adjustable valves.

Re: Rust Stains on Stainless Steel
I burnished my rusty bumpers and instrument panel with water-wetted aluminum foil. A little elbow grease and follow up waxing and you'll be amazed.

Re: Overheating 1930 Model A
Do you have engine pans? I had overheating issues and went back to the pans and a new 2-bladed fan. Then I had a problem getting her up to operating temp (she ran at about 120*), so I added a...

Re: Jacking Instructions
I use a Sunex 2 ton "low rider" to raise mine. I cut grooves in the top of a hockey puck (which fits the top of my floor jack) to "embrace" the axle to keep it from sliding while I lift her. On...

Thanks for the response, nkaminar and bobbader. I think I’ll go the route of exchanging for a rebuilt. With the summer cruising season upon us, I’d like to feel confident in my parts. We’re...

Re: Champagne
So, I filled the tank and it still was between 0-1/4; drove home, and the next day the gauge was working. We all have our gremlins, but mine just likes to mess with me.
I guess that the large...

A few months ago I started a thread about replacing my gas gauge float with a champagne cork. I am sad to say, but my A rejected the cork today. I wish I could find a beer cork so I could see if...
