Three weeks for a mild acid attacking the radiator lead soldered seams seem like a lot of time to me. I'd hate to weaken the solder.

I would agree. That diode will have a very small leak (draw) even when brand new. When it goes you will see a big draw.

I worked in law enforcement and we did a test on WD40 and a alcohol breath testing machine. Sprayed a bit on the skin and in 10 seconds ran the test and it showed up on the machine as a blood alcohol...
