Re: 1940 Steering Box Leak

On the 48-52 truck boxes, one of the plate bolts is open to the inside. Ours leaked there even with cornhead grease until I sealed the threads with permatex aviation.

Re: Sun distributor machine

I set my first distributor up last night on the sun machine. I took the vacuum pump out, disassembled it and cleaned it. Worked on repairing some wiring connections, and put the correct vacuum...

On an 8BA distributor, what is the best and safest way to remove the gear from the shaft?

Re: 0Ba distributor condenser question

I know bud, all I had on the shelf was NOS. I have a couple of new ones on the way from NAPA, for inventory and swapping out the one I just put in.

Re: 0Ba distributor condenser question

Today we got around to doing a compression test. I did the test with engine cold, and most cylinders were around 95-100, but #1 and #5 were at 85. Digging a little deeper, we put a leak down tester...

Re: Sun distributor machine

Digital manometer came and I plumbed it into the vacuum pump. I should be able get pretty precise with this setup. I tested it and could get all three vacuum levels pretty consistently. Will report...

Re: Sun distributor machine

Well I was able to source a replacement manometer for the tester. Anybody know what fluid should/could be used as a substitute to the sun fluid?

I also have a digital one coming, but think the...

Re: Removing Corn Head grease from steering

It does turn into a liquid of sorts with heat. Our box in our 52 F1 still leaks out of the bolt in the bottom that is open to the case. I need to pull that bolt and put some permatex aviation on it...

Re: Sun distributor machine

I found a digital manometer on Amazon that I think will work. I think teeing that into the vacuum pump will help with a more precise reading.

Re: Sun distributor machine

Agreed, I found it last night. It slides up from the tester case. Problem is that itís in need of restoration, gauge readings are missing, etc. I need to find someone to restore it or find a better...

Re: Sun distributor machine

The tester has a vacuum gauge on it, problem is it goes from 0 to around 15Ē. The loadamatics use a really low signal, and getting that precise seems impossible with the gauge and the increments on...

Re: Sun distributor machine

Received the capacitor kit from Mark at Paramount and the machine works great. Question on the vacuum pump, what have you guys done to get precision vacuum pressures that the Ford loadamatics need to...

Re: dead cylinder on the 53 flathead V8

This is where a borescope comes in handy! It’s worth the $50 or so

0Ba distributor condenser question

We used a NOS 0ba distributor in our 52 F1 8BA build. The engine runs strong but at idle I have a very slight intermittent miss, almost like the engine stumbles for a second and then recovers, itís...

Re: Sun distributor machine

Got it, did that and everything is working.

The flash bulb is working, it’s just really weak. Charging the 6v battery just in case that’s it, but thinking I am going to at least need the...

Sun distributor machine

Folks, bought a really cool piece of history today, an old Sun MD-1 distributor machine. Plugged it in and it works, even the vacuum pump. The flashbulb was weak and went out so it will need some...

Re: Brake Drums

Nice info, I wonder if there were markings on 48-52 F1 drums? Amazing at the small details. I think there is a similar situation on 48-52 F1 fan hubs, one of the webs on the bearing is thicker to...

Re: point gap = dwell

Always learning from you guys, appreciate the insight, and putting up with me hijacking the thread. I measured this evening and have a dwell angle of 27.

Re: point gap = dwell

Let’s say you test with a dwell meter and get an angle of 26 vs spec of 28. Is that 2 degrees worth adjusting out or is it close enough not to notice?

Re: Dana 44 rear/1953/56 f-100

I used Randy’s on our 52 F1 Dana 44 3.54 rebuild, good parts. I had to use their flange to fit the pinion but the stock driveshaft fit fine. It runs strong and no issues on the hills around here...

Re: spark plug recommendation

I had a similar issue at cruise speed, good advice on the plugs. In my case, the driveshaft was severely out of balance. Had a driveline shop balance it and all good.

Re: Ford Script Battery

Battery central mall has antique batteries. I just bought one for our 52 F1 and it works great. They are make to order so it takes time to arrive, I think mine took two months.

Re: 49 ford clutch chatter

Make sure your clutch release bearing is a good fit on the release hub and is not cocked hitting the fingers unevenly.
