I think it does fill more slowly plus in California we have those gas recirculating devices on the nozzle that makes it even hard to fill the tank even in a modern car.
I finally gave up filling...

Bratton’s lists it as a screen which also serves as a “spark arrester” for $12.05. Their screen does not screw in nor does it have tabs, “it just sits there”.
