Re: 1950 ford flathead 11" pressure plate flywheel clutch old trick

I have run my 49 F1 continuously for the past 46 years. About the only thing I've never touched on it is the factory heavy duty 3-speed box. I check the oil level once a year and change the oil every...

Re: 8BA Dip Stick Length and Oil Level

4.5 imperial quarts fills my F1 8BA (stock dipstick) after an oil filter cartridge change, which includes emptying the canister. 4.5 Imp quarts on the convertor = 5.4 US quarts.

I put one on my 49 F1 about 40,000 miles ago and have never touched it.

Re: 7RC-3134 F-1 spindle steering arm

The ball on my arm was worn out of round many years ago. With no replacements available I had a machine shop press it out, rotate to make the most of the unworn portion, and press back in. Still...

Re: 59A Oil Filter

I use a Ryco R4P in my 8BA canister, which is the same as what I used in the canister on my 81A motor. Get it from Supercheap Auto though: $38.98 compared with well over $60 at Repco ... May be...

Re: 1953 f-100 rear gears

My 49 F1 originally had a 4.27:1 Dana 41 which I changed to a Dana 44 3.78:1. I recently rebuilt the Dana 41 with 3.55:1 gears. Running 6:50 16 tyres and 265 flattie, this feels to me like the best...

Re: 11 inch clutch

I have had an 11 inch in my 49 F1 for the past 45 years because that is what it came with. Clutch pedal pressure feels right to me ... and no noticeable difference in pedal pressure to anything else...

Re: Rear Axle Ring and Pinion compatibility issues

3.54 differential and 6:50 16's in my 49 pickup with a 265 8BA and heavy duty 3-speed gearbox. Having previously had 4.27 and 3.78 differentials fitted, I've found the 3.54 the best combination of...

Kiwi Barners Glass Replacement

I broke the bottom of my original drivers window on my 49 F1 pickup from which I can create a template. A local (Wellington) auto glass shop can cut a replacement. However, I am told the edging will...

My manuals say 6-12 inch 1bs preload for the Dana 41 and 10-30 for the Dana 44.

Re: Pinion nut torque spec?

My 1949-50-51 Ford F-Series Trucks Shop Manual on page 166 states 140-180 foot 1bs for the pinion nut. This information relates to the Dana 41.

Re: 1949 Mercury differential ratios?

My 49 F1 has a Dana 41 4.27:1 (47:11) that I have just swapped to a 3.55:1 (39:11). New seals and bearings from Early Ford V8, including NOS planetary gears. Motive Gear Performance ring and pinion...

Re: 1950 Dana 44 Gear Ratio

My Dana 41 carrier (4.27 original ratio) has 8M-B-1 stamped on one part of it and C ford (script) 948 on another. The diff housing has 8M 4025 stamped on it, along with 427 on the RH housing tube....

Re: 1950 Dana 44 Gear Ratio

I fitted a 1956 F100 Dana 44 into my 1949 F1 - no alterations needed. It has the 3.73 ratio (41/11) which I find a pretty good all-rounder with 6:50-16 tyres on the rear. I have my stock Dana 41...

Re: 1949 Ford F1 question

Smaller tyres mean higher engine RPM and a 3.54 diff lower RPM, therefore compensation for smaller tyres.

Re: 1949 Ford F1 question

In my earlier post that should have been 'I haven't been able to find parts for the Dana 41'. Thanks for the link to Randy's who has parts for the Dana 44.
I currently have a 3.73 Dana 44 from a...

Re: 1949 Ford F1 question

Just wondering how you got on fitting this 3.54 gearing (8C-4209-HS) to your Dana 41? Did the new crown wheel fit the exiting carrier? Any installation issues?
I have a Dana 41 that I am interested...
