The “R” means for Repairs. The R is added to mean the part is available to ford mechanics for repairs due to the fact that that particular part is no longer used in production but is needed to repair...

If the top is not right due to wear it will cause that. You have to be completely out of one gear before going to next. Make sure first it’s installed correctly I.e. the forks are hitting the gear...

For those who don't know, asbestos is NOT BANNED from use in automotive brakes, clutches, transmissions and even gaskets. It was banned for about 2 years but has been legal for use again since 1991....

The shells are unpolished stainless. The stainless virgin cross grain has never been buffed out. The shell is painted black over the stainless. the black paint is "under" the riveted bracket.

Here’s how Ford did it:

From the Ford service bulletins:

"......pull the brake pedal all the way back until it is against its stop - then adjust the rod until there is about 1/16” clearance...

The problem is first gear is not completely disengaged preventing second gear from engaging. A common problem with the shifter. Most likely as others have said is the shifter ball is no longer round

Buy the repro exhaust and intake manifold setup. They are well worth the money and along with an Aries muffler you will achieve a leak less setup that sounds like a Model A should.

It does matter for engine performance. Simple to check. Check one plug. Remove the connector from the top of any plug. The flare should be towards the plug. If not reverse your coil wiring.
