Re: Starter Problem - caught on fire

Those are the signs of a short circuit to ground. Perhaps the fiber insulator inside the switch was missing or failed and the copper strip made contact with the body of the switch? Or the fiber...

Re: Macungie pa.

Wont't argue with those numbers, but despite that, thousands did show up for the car show. The original question was what happened to the swap meet. Some suggested that it was fear of covid that...

Re: Macungie pa.

So how does that square with the 500+cars and thousands of people who mingled freely among each other without masks at the car show? There are people who have convinced themselves that covid is the...

Re: Macungie pa.

The car show was very well attended on the Sunday that I was there, so I don't think there's any "new normal" reluctance for people to get out and mingle. In fact, at every car show I've been at...

Re: How obsolete was the model t in the late 20s

The T made Henry a billionaire, and perhaps the most famous person in the USA. He was an obstinate narrow minded cuss and it was his way or the highway. There's a story that while Henry was away on...

Re: Point gap seems fussy.

I suspect you had some oxidation on the point contacts, and by running the feeler gauge through them you cleaned them.

Re: Trans fluid on driveway

Are you sure it isn't engine oil from the rear main running down and dripping off the transmission?

Re: Blown fuse

Don't let a blown fuse deter you from buying the car! The wiring system is so simple in a Model A that it will be easy to find and fix the problem. Use it as a bargaining chip to get the seller to...

Re: Broken clutch arm

The arm is held on by a pin. Should be easy to drive the pin out and take off the arm. I bet the arm cracked at the hole where the pin goes through. Not much metal there. Mine cracked at that...

Re: Clutch Disk Chatter

Over filling the oil pan can cause excess leakage onto the clutch face and that can cause chatter. It happened to me. I burned the clutch dry by slipping the clutch while revving the engine, and...

I don't know, but I bet it's because Henry got a good deal from the supplier!

Re: What Made You Choose The Model A Over the T

I chose both! But an A is able to keep up with traffic on secondary roads, whereas a T is a back-roads tourer.

Re: Teach me about differentials.

When you spin the one rear wheel and notice that the drive shaft isn't turning, what is the other rear wheel doing? If it is turning in the opposite direction of the wheel you are spinning, that is...

Re: Teach me about differentials.

I suspect you have a broken axle or keyway. The open diff in a Model A sends the power to the wheel with the least traction. A broken axle has zero traction, so that's the side that will spin....

Re: Starter stuck in on position

The repro switches have a copper strap. Copper is not springy. Original starter switches had a brass alloy strap that was much more springy. It's more yellow in color than copper. Hunt for an...

Re: No reverse

I wonder if maybe an axle is broken in such a way that it will move the car forward but not rearward? Try jacking up the rear tires and pull on them outward, away from the center differential while...

Re: I Need A Temperature Guage ???

Exactly! Model As do not stay at a constant temperature like modern cars do. You go up a hill, the temp rises, you go down the hill, it falls. You stop at a red light, the temp rises, you take...

Re: Laundry list of repairs...which is first?

IMO, You should do these in this order before you ever take the car out on the road again:
One lug bolt on front tire has threads stripped, the other four are fine.
Check...

Re: MARC National 2022 Host Hotel July 1st

Brent, your suggestion of having the national club back the local club hosting the event financially and with expertise is what the Buick Club of America does. The local club has no financial risk...

Re: MARC National 2022 Host Hotel July 1st

Looks like the host hotel filled up by early afternoon yesterday. Website was showing no rooms available that week by like 1:00PM. I got my reservation in, though I nearly wore out the redial...

Re: I'm not a Model A person

IMHO, the Model A is a tinkerer's car. If you don't have the desire or aptitude to turn a wrench, the Model A is not for you. Alternatively, if you have a deep wallet and a mechanic nearby and...
