Re: NOS 8RT camshaft

Now we need to figure out what valve lash this cam is designed for.
The earliest 8BA cams used the same lobe design as the 38-48 cam.
The later (late 1949 and on) cams had a new design lobe with...

Re: What wheels are these?

Is that a Tonner truck? They had specific 17" wheels with an odd bolt pattern and hubcaps.

Re: Swapping Engines

I prefer to run the earlier center water outlet type engines in 39 and older trucks. The 8BA is a great engine, the best flathead V8 series in terms of use, but fitting one into the earlier vehicles...

Thank you for the information. Please update us again when you try to fit it and let us know how it goes.

Re: 1953 Ford 4 door rear vent window weatherstrip

I'll join the group hoping you find something that works. The seals in my 53 are original and hard as a rock. I assumed I would have to get a couple sets of vent window seals, a razor blade, super...

Re: Dash color

Fast54, I think that is a standard coupe, not a deluxe coupe. I personally prefer the look of 35 standard cars over 35 deluxe cars, but both are nice. Deluxe cars had chrome grills and windshield...

Re: What gears in a stock '48 F1 with 9" rearend?

Just want to make sure, are you aware that 3.54 gear set is available for the stock Dana 41 axle?...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Your measured lift numbers sounded familiar for some reason so I went searching. Sure enough, reported measured lift by a Barn member on a NOS EAB camshaft was similar to what you are finding on your...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

I suspect the 8RT cam is either the same as the 8BA cam, or is the older 37-48 grind. I would check the 8BA and the EAB cams for condition and if either are good use them first, with preference on...

Re: Clutch?

A 10" clutch should be fine for what you want. For a while someone was offering a diaphragm style clutch that fit the stock bolt batter and used the stock throw out bearing. I don't know if that is...

Re: Another V8 Identification Thread (1940 Ford)

I agree, that is a raised deck. It is a 41-42 motor.

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

The EA cam is almost certainly an EAB cam. The BA cam is almost certainly an 8BA cam. The specifications for each are:
8BA intake - 0.305 gross lift; .013 / .015 lash; ...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Any of the stock 8BA cams will work, the shorter duration versions will maximize low end torque at the expense of mid and upper range horsepower. I would look for the best condition camshaft rather...

Re: 276 stroker from 35 years of parts

Find a good stock 8BA era camshaft with no measurable wear on the lobe (measure lobe heights, all should be equal). You can't beat the stock cam for low end grunt and smooth idle.

I like the stock...

Re: Troubleshooting Transmission '47 pickup

As mentioned once before in this thread, Ford made a set of gears for the three speed with a 3.52 first for use in pre-war 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. I thought someone early in this thread had one they...

Re: Another V8 Identification Thread (1940 Ford)

Your engine block sounds like a 41A unit to me. Post war 221 replacement blocks with most but not all external features of the 59 blocks. No core plug in the oil pan rail, no raised intake, flush...

Re: Trip away in the33

That kangaroo radiator cap is fun, I don't remember seeing one of those before. Seems appropriate for an Aussie 34.
Thanks for the pictures.

Re: Canadian Flathead?

The opposite happened though, Ford Germany produced a few short snout...

Re: Towing Capacity?

That fire truck looks heavy to begin with. Adding a light trailer behind it probably will change the driving dynamics a bit, but not outside of reason. First get it driving nicely by itself and see...
