There are companies that can custom make hub caps but would need a
minimum of 50-200-200 at a time. One company comes to mind Hipwell Arden in the UK.

Get a 6” orbital sander, use 80 grit and sand it down to the metal.
It will take longer but there’s no warping involved and
you can’t make a mistake.

Of the rod meets the fitting. That little knob Fitting connects to the rod.
All you have to do is push Back the spring loaded...

My 36 Cabriolet has no shims but I don’t think a shim here and there if needed
wouldn’t hurt anything. I had to use a few to align the body lines and doors.
80 year old cars my need some tweaking...
