Re: No oil pressure on new build

Remove the spark plugs and crank the engine. It may take a while, but he should show some pressure. Crank about 30 seconds, then try again.

Re: 1940 Ford V8 ID

39 and 40 were basically the same engine except for the ports for the temp senders. 40 used an electric sender so the ports were drilled straight through while the 39 had a ledge in the hole. Many...

Re: Calculate actual quench height

Do as Ronnie says. However I use tin foil balls. With your method you are assuming the radius of the head and the radius of the piston are the same. The outer edges might show something completely...

Re: 39 ford waterpumps

You do need to support the engine as the water pumps are the engine mounts.

Re: 8ba question

No, upon checking, I was wrong. I never really worked on any 52 - 53 engines. Guess I better study up. Always learning.

Re: Oil leak

I have used the rope seal and the neoprene seal with no leakage problems with either one. I also don't have a problem with the spiral grooves on the wear sleeve.

Re: Oil leak

That .060 hole is flooding the front of your engine in oil. Bad move.

Re: Holley 94 jets

I would choose 51 jets, but you shouldn't have a problem with 52's.

Re: Ignition Problem or Carb Problem

The Bosch blue coils I run on a 12v system measure around 3.6 ohms. No resistor needed.

Re: Holley 94 throttle shaft

How about tapping the shaft so you could use a machine screw to hold it in place?

Re: welded crankshaft oil holes

So far I haven't done anything with it. Got a lot of 8BA cranks. I may just use it for a lab engine.

Re: welded crankshaft oil holes

I just took a 53 engine apart that was built 35 years ago and never fired. When I got it open, all 4 crank plug holes were welded up solid. Too bad because it is a nice clean crank.
