Re: Paint v/s Japaning
In the Nov-Dec 2019 issue of The Restorer magazine there was a good article on how to make you own Japan Black Enamel and how to apply it to the carburetor.

Re: Bendix Drive Question??
Thanks for the report Stuart. I have put on over 120K mile on my model A and during that time I have had one spring break and one bolt fall out. I don't think that is all that bad for the miles...

Re: rear wheel stud installation
My local auto machine shop has the tools in house to that work, maybe you could check around your area to find a shop that can do this job for you.

Re: Ford Model A engine noise
Sounds like a vacuum leak between the carb and manifold. If you have a Tillotson carb the flange can warp, you can use a flat file on the carb to smooth it out and a new gasket should help.

Re: Preston “ALL VEHICLES” Antifreeze
How about your local autoparts store, they should have some brand of GREEN ethylene glycol (which is an IAT opposed to OAT/HOAT compound) antifreeze.

Re: 1/2” Bendix
The issue is that it is not a Bendix starter drive, the 1/2" shaft used an Able starter drive which are not available. Easier to change to a starter with a 5/8" drive.

Re: Borg-Warner OD Wiring
I think the switch you installed is better than the kickdown switch.
Also make sure you check the oil regularly as the planetary gear needs lubrication or the small needle bearings will fail.

Re: Borg-Warner OD Wiring
The unit drops out of overdrive so if you go into reverse you wont do any harm but you won't be able to back up until you pull the cable and lock the unit into direct drive.

Re: Borg-Warner OD Wiring
If you use the factory centrifugal switch in conjunction with the solenoid you don't have to worry about reverse. As you slow down the switch cuts out at 20 MPH and breaks the circuit to the...
