Soak in evaporust or like. May take a stiff brushing and resoak. Vinegar will work but talked longer.

Out of square can make for lots of weird assembly

Not exactly...there is copper seen on original bumpers as the chrome fails. Plus copper seen on folding irons and lots of other parts

Have you also checked for square? I’d also pull a sting from front to back and see if the 1/8 is really a bit more than over just the 4’ span....I bet it is.

Youll have to clean up the bumpers some to know.
If they are loaded with pits on the surface youd likely be better off buying new.
Yes replating can be more than new due to prep work. New are new...

I don’t remember about the brass ones; many early 30 had brass sub stanchion. But I think they are basically the same configuration
The stud is threaded into the base and peened on the backside....

I had several conversations with Gene
I think it was Trautwein that was making most of the frame. Gene was putting brackets and taking are of those that were to be plated.
They’re a machine shop...

Yea this hollow frames rust from the inside out. And the acids used in plating on exacerbate the rusting.what we’ve done in the past on originals is drill some holes that wouldn’t be seen when done...

Looks like the spring in the pic is not the correct side for the latch as pictured

Virtually impossible ..by asking I’m assuming you never had them about before
The ease of taking out hinge pins very much depends on the wear of the pins and how badly they are ceased in the hinge....

Who can work on Crown rumble handles? This is a nice handle but no key.
Ive heard of,but do not know, Cal Allen; did a search and came up dry.

As stated the regulator could be bad. The spring is on it to assist the up movement
The channels could be binding. Gravity helps going down but not up
