I think 1BA also indicated that the crankshaft was usable with the automatic transmission. Both of these changes were in the 1951 model year.

Looks like the non overdrive Mercury transmission used from 1949 through very early 1951. Canadian cars were both Mercury and Monarch in those years. I don't know if anything like this was available...
