Re: Info on this truck transmission

The trans does appear to be earlier than a 48-52, but I believe the rear mount is specific to those years. It's a non-synchro 4-sp, nothing I'd care to drive these days.

Re: Info on this truck transmission

Set up like a 48-52 truck trans, with an F-2 / F-3 rear mount. The rear mount "feet" are often cracked, tho.

Re: 1934 Ford Phaeton Owned By Jay Hertz Of Albuquerque

I was on a committee in the EFV8 Club local chapter with Jay, a very interesting guy! Oddly enough he was more of an early Chevy guy, had some really nice 20's vintage Chevies.

Re: 30 amp generator vs 55 amp

Can't say for certain on that old of a car, but in 48-52 trucks it's a larger generator.

Re: “Inside” part of road draft tube

FYI the original p/n for the tube is 8BA-6759. Google didn't find any but Dennis C. may have it in their stash of NOS parts.

The oil fill tube for an 8BA is 1.3695 OD, might be worth trying,...

Re: 1950 F3 Ignition switch and door lock

The problem on trucks is getting the door lock cylinder out. It's retained by an Allen-head setscrew almost an inch long, and they rarely come out without a fight.

Re: Eab

My engine is an EAB and has "1BA" cast into the back of the block near the oil pump drive. No hardened seats, with rotators. I believe that identifies blocks cast for use without seats.

After a...

Re: 1950 F3 Ignition switch and door lock

There are repro key sets out there, usual chinese. But they work. If you can get your door lock cylinder out, a locksmith can make a key to fit if you give him a blank.

Re: 52 f1

Can you tell if it's all the brakes, or just one wheel? If it's all of them, the residual pressure valve in the MC may be bad.

I had some drag when releasing the e-brake and backing up. It turned...

Re: is it ok to run diluted antifreeze?

Good point. I always run 50/50 in everything, because at my altitude water boils at 202°.

Pic is of my head's cooling passage after 5 yrs from a rebuild, during a thermostat change. Can't beat...

Re: Overdrive Transmission in a 1952 F1

Stock F-1 engine angle is 3° down at the rear, which puts the carb level.

Do you know your new driveshaft length yet? B_Man_Al and I have done a lot of study on how much the yoke moves on the...

On the other hand, you are encouraging him solely because the OD is "nice", without any regard for the MAJOR fabrication needed to install it. Pics below are typical mods needed to install a T5 in an...

Re: 49 Ford flathead generator wide belt generator pulley

Hold on, most F-2's and 3's used the same pulley as F-1's. Here is the list, all used 5/8" wide belts, is that what the cars used? "Note 2" on the one listing was a specially small diameter pulley...

Re: Rearend Question

I went the 9" / 3.50 route. I briefly tried a 3.25 ratio, and it was a total dog. (Note I live up high, 5300+ ft, and plenty of hills/mountains). Even on flat ground with a 30 mph headwind I couldn't...

Re: 49 Ford flathead generator wide belt generator pulley

Trucks came with 3 or 4 different diameter pulleys. Big trucks got larger diameter pulleys, F-1's are probably the same as cars. But I would think all physically fit.

Re: How would you price this F1?

All body repairs done with sheet metal, or bondo? Rust on the underside?

If it's as nice underneath as it appears in the video, I'd be looking for $20K, maybe more, depends on location to a large...

Re: Overdrive Transmission in a 1952 F1

I bought an OD trans at a swap meet, and after measuring it up, sold it. I can't say I've ever seen a successful transplant, but I have heard changing the crossmember to an F-2/3 type gives the...

Re: Overdrive Transmission in a 1952 F1

OD wasn't a factory option in '52 on any F-series truck, '53 and newer had them. Blucar, do you have a picture of that truck? I have to believe it was a '53 that was sold in '52 and titled as such. ...

Re: 52 F1 oil seal

I would absolutely go with torque to specs rather than the position the nut was in 68 yrs ago when it had brand new bearings. Although you may end up backing off to get the cotter pin in.
