My Grandfather was a mechanic at a Ford dealership when Model A's were new. My Dad started working with him as a teenager. My Dad told me the above was the reason for the holes in the tray.

Check the wires with a test light or meter to be sure, but the black should be the 12v charge wire. The center wire is usually used for backup lights.

Gas Gauge Gasket
I've got a set of cork gaskets for the gas gauge that I purchased several years ago. I don't remember form where. They are too thick to get the index plate tab into the hole to start the nut over...

If you add resistance in series with the brake/turn signal bulb/led you will decrease the current to the bulb. In series, resistance adds, and more resistance means less current. Less current...
