Thumbs up Re: Rear leaf spring questions

Hi, All; Thanks for the good advice & feedback. Sounds like the 10 leaf will fit if I want a stiffer ride and I can reduce leafs to 8 for a softer ride. This I need to decide on before I move...

Re: Rear leaf spring questions

Thanks all for the responses. Yes, Chuck Sea/Tac, that's exactly what the issue was. There was no way to even remove the spring assy from the vehicle without taking the center bolt nut off. With the...

Rear leaf spring questions

Hi,All;
Please bear with me while I explain how I got to this point and my concerns. In setting-out to rebuild the rear end (new axle, bearings, seals), I ran into some issues with the leaf spring....

Re: Evaluating rear axles

Thanks again all for the feedback. As usual, some differing opinions, but as always, food for thought.

Larrys40, this was also my order of priority when seeking out potential replacement axles....

Re: Evaluating rear axles

Glad I asked. Thanks all for the prompt replies. I'll have to search for the Readi-sleeve thread. I assume there's a right & wrong way to install them.

Evaluating rear axles

I'm finally replacing a damaged rear axle and could use any advice in evaluating replacement candidate axles.

I've aquired six used axles as candidates for this project. Four of the six are...

Re: Window garnish molding differences?

That's funny. Good thing the garnish wasn't blue, or you'd have never found it. ;)

Re: Window garnish molding differences?

Hi, 5 Window; As unattractive as carrying a garnish around with you may sound, that's exactly what I would recommend. A few years back, I too was looking for the same garnishes for my '30 coupe. I...

RR Axle keyway regrind

Hi, All
Sometime ago I recall hearing of someone toying with the idea of regrinding or EDM'ing a new keyway on the taper opposite a stressed or damaged RR axle keyway. Is anyone aware if this was...

Re: Planning on a Shop Lift, Two or Four Post?

I've also been considering a lift for the barn. In my opinion, a four post is the way to go. Wheel removal is a down-side but, can easily be accomodated with a floor jack. Some four posts are...

Differential Bearing Part No.

Hi All,
Does anyone know the Timkin part number for the differential bearings? I can obtain them at a discount provided I can give them a Timkin P/N. Thanks!

Correct Paint Color for Starter

I suppose I could look this-up in a reference book, but I happen to be on-line now. What is the correct paint color for the starter motor? Engine green or black? Thanks!

Re: Engine stuck. Suggestions?

SUCCESS!!!:D
A prybar against the flywheel teeth worked like a charm. Very little effort required. Thanks to all for the advice.

Now, I can paint the starter while it's off.

Re: Step Plates?

I bought some & never mounted them. Where they look better centered to the door, it's not where I naturally place my foot.

Re: Engine stuck. Suggestions?

After reading Gunmetal Blue's post I thought to myself "Of course I know that, but it will undoubtably run into the cylinders". Then, I realized that most of those valves are sitting open, and most...

Re: Engine stuck. Suggestions?

Haven't touched the engine. It's up on jack stands while I do some rear end work. I just like to roll it over with the hand crank every few months to keep things loose. This time, no such luck. It...

Re: Engine stuck. Suggestions?

SWEET TOOL, Tom! I'll be rummaging thru my spares tomorrow. I assume by your post that there is more leverage at the flywheel than at the hand crank? Not comfortable with the hand crank. Pulling up =...

Engine stuck. Suggestions?

Looking for some suggestions for getting my '30 coupe engine unstuck. I was last working on the rear end last fall and before winter. I went to roll it over with the hand crank (which I make a habit...
