Re: 52 Merc out for a drive

Very nice. I often see '53s & '54s but for some reason rarely see a '52 Merc.

Re: LED lights on collector cars

Yeah I've done that as I'm semi-purist. Tail lights and dash lights are pretty cheap at Rock Auto. The #6006 (the common 6 volt) and #6024 (common 12 volt) are cheaper on there than going to the part...

Re: LED lights on collector cars

Thanks for the responses. Some years back I read comments that LEDs were causing problems such as turn signal flashers either not working or burning out or LEDs not working on 6 volt systems....

LED lights on collector cars

I am wondering are these working ok with stock electrical systems of both 6 and 12 volts and not causing havoc?
As some of you might know the federal government is banning the sales of both...

Re: Rebuild kit for a 1953 Mercury dual action fuel pump

The dual action is for providing vaccum to the windshield wipers. Some will just buy a single action pump (which is cheaper) and use another source of vacuum and others convert to electric wipers if...

Re: Ecklers

Too bad Macs went down the tubes. Used to get stuff there than no one else carried such as brake shoes, hardware, king pins, wheel cylinders and front drums for a '56 F-350 I had at the time.

Re: '36 221 - rebuildable??

I thought '36s were still babbitt pounders? Not many around who still do babbitt work.

Re: Title Woe’s

I knew someone who went thru a vehicle inspection checkpoint in Ohio. He had a '62 F100 that was on a late model Crown Victoria frame. Naturally the VIN # didn't match and they yanked his...

Re: 1952 Ford Crestline Sunliner Convertible

Project cars are a hard sell right now if they need a complete restoration. I'm seeing a lot out there for months or years with no takers. Yes there are a lot of repop parts available now that...

Re: Bitter Cold

Right now it's 12:30AM and 4 above zero in Fort Smith, AR the closest town to me. When it reaches 19 as they predict for Friday, maybe I can turn the heat down a little.

Re: Anybody know where I can get parts for y block 317

That one can be a toughie. Kanter has parts for a basic rebuild such as valves, bearings and gaskets. Pistons can probably still ordered thru Egge. Rebuilders who specify in building uncommon...

Re: old gas - like 10 years old

In cases in the past I never used the rotten gas like that to try and start the car but rather put a gallon of fresh gas in a can and get about six or so feet of neoprene fuel hose and run to the...

Re: Disc Brakes for '55 wagon

I respect everybody's wishes and believe you should get what you desire. Personally I think disc brakes are just a money pit. In almost 50 years I've never had a brake failure or wasn't able to...

Re: 57 Ford Fairlane master cylinder non power

Classic Auto Parts in Oklahoma City lists two master cylinders. One for 2 1/2 inch bolt spread ($99.95) fits 1952-59 and the other with 1 7/8 bolt spread ($174.95) fits 1957-59. If I had the rarer...

Re: Scammer - [email protected]

I had that happen on this site a few years back. He showed living just 200 miles from me so I said fine I'll come and pick them up (some truck wheels) Then he went into sending money thru Western...

Re: 1957 Ford Fairlane 500 Windshield

Some local glass shops do deal with suppliers for classic cars and trucks and also have installers that are knowledgeable so check around. I'm lucky where I'm at to have such a shop so I don't have...

According to the Hollander interchange manual, the starter is the same on all Fords, Lincolns, Mercurys and trucks for 1956 is the same.

Re: 1956 lincoln premiere

1956 Lincolns are one of my most favorite cars of the decade but between the transmissions and the front ball joints is what has always scared me away from buying one. The front ball joints are $1500...

1953 Ford dash question

Were these originally painted to match to outside color of the car? Most I've seen thru the years are gray or black.
I ask as I'm interested in this '53 that's not too far from me. The dash is...

Re: what's it worth

If the climate change people have their way and gasoline goes away in 10 or 15 years, most of our vehicles will not be worth anything as no one is going to spend five figures on something they can't...

Re: Which is the best fuel pump for a 1956 T-bird?

After having pump failures (one died after ONE DAY'S use) from new pumps I've since bought either used or old NOS pumps and send them to a rebuilder before using them. They will outlast any of this...

Re: 1955 Ford E-350 Wheels

Ford went to 17.5 tubeless rims in 1956 on the 1 tonners. Occasionally they show up on e-bay and ford-trucks.com. Of course that means you won't be able to use your 16 inch tires that you bought. ...

Re: New brakes drums 1953 F250

As I remember the 1953-55 drums are 12 inch but the '56 on up fronts which are more readily available (they ran that size for years) are 12 1/8. I solved that by finding front 1956 F250 backing...

Question Low mileage original--is gas additive needed?

Close by neighbor bought a 1966 T-Bird with only 28,000 miles on it (still has the new car smell!) so therefore it does not have hardened valve seats. Does he need to put lead or some form of...
