Re: Car Is Shrinking........

Here is how I did it. I'm not saying it was the best way. But it worked well and did no damage.

I put it in 1st gear, sat in the car, and planned out how far I wanted to twist it to the right....

Re: Car Is Shrinking........

I did the same thing, my shifter was clocked at about 7 O'clock when I got my Roadster. I bent it to 6 O'clock and now it's perfect.

I did it with the shifter still attached and in the car.

Powder coat VS paint for wheels

It's time to refinish the wheels on my '40. Which holds up better to the hub caps and rings being installed and removed? I know powder coat is pretty tough, but will it stand up to the caps and rings...

Re: winch

One thing to watch out for when using the winch rope is that it can retain moisture. Which isn't a big deal for the winch rope itself. But the drum of your winch can start to rust out.

If your...

Re: Replace rear motor mounts

That is good to know. I have several bottle jacks and pieces of 2x4 in my garage. But I don't own a frame spreader.

Replace rear motor mounts

Is it possible to change the rear motor mounts one at a time with the motor in the car and no frame spreader?

Re: 6volt to 12volt conversion on a 53 Ford

I had a '53 that was converted to 12V. The horns need no change. The gauges can be made to work with voltage reducers. The blower motor can be replaced with a 12V one or you can have it rewound at a...

Re: Clutch Chatter

If by clutch is down you mean the clutch pedal is pressed all the way down. Then yes, that behavior is correct. Remember the clutch disk rides on the transmission input shaft splines. If the trans is...

Re: Clutch Chatter

If you know anyone that has one of those Go Pro type cameras with the magnetic bases maybe you could borrow it and film the drive line as you let out the clutch. Maybe that would give you more...

Re: Clutch Chatter

Are you 100% sure it's clutch chatter? I had a '53 Ford that was smooth as butter letting out the clutch until I decided to install lowering blocks in the rear. Those 2 inch blocks caused the whole...

Re: Removing metal bands and channel from upper radiator hoses

I tried that. It would not compress enough to release the band. It may work on some other hoses. But the stock style ones I have have pretty rigid rubber

Re: Removing metal bands and channel from upper radiator hoses

After work last night I carefully masked off the bands and channel, removed the surface rust, then painted. They turned out pretty good. With it so humid where I live I know the surface rust will...

Re: Removing metal bands and channel from upper radiator hoses

I wasn't planning to cut them. Just bend the tab back where it hooks into the channel. But I don't know how bendable that strip is. It might snap.

If it's likely i'll destroy them trying to remove...

Removing metal bands and channel from upper radiator hoses

Are you a member on the HAMB? There is a large group of '52-'54 Ford owners on there that may have what you need. They hang out in the "1952-59 FORD SOCIAL GROUP"

Model A rear engine mounts

For some odd reason one of the previous owners of my Roadster notched the upper bolt hole on the rear engine mounts on both sides. So i'm looking to replace them with a set that is stock and in...

Re: Do modern style thermostats work in 59 stylle heads?

Yes, those are the type that no suppliers seem to have in stock currently. The ones that are commonly available at present are the type that are the same diameter from end to end. Or the ones with...

Re: Do modern style thermostats work in 59 stylle heads?

That is correct. The ones with the flare seem to be hard to find in stock anywhere these days. Carpenter and others are out of stock and have been for months. At least for the '40 Ford style.

Re: Intermittent exhaust popping

I had a similar issue, when I dropped the replacement 59A in my '40. It ran great at 800RPM and up. But any lower and I got random pops out the exhaust.

Plug wires and cap replacement fixed it....
