Buddy wanted to do his and he was same age as the truck, born in ‘39. Had bad memories of standing on his head, back in the day to work on them, so I helped engineer and complete a tilt front end....

Same as motorcycle handle bars, dish soap lets them slide on and they are glued, won’t come off.
Maybe modern made rubber not work as good

I just want them to work.
I sand & polish, coat with clear engine paint. Look decent for a long time. Get a yellowish tint after awhile but like it even better.

If you look at cross section illustrations can see that have multiple folds that interlock provide a tension retention once installed.

All the glass I have put in I put the rubber was in the frame first, then the glass was “rolled “ in. Caterpillar and others have another flap that fold in to fill the space in the seam, best system...

I like to use temp gauges on both sides so I save any head mounted pumps. I am using one now that I drilled and brazed on a collar to get a sender in. Cooler to use 2 right side, greasable
