Re: Intake & exhaust manifold torque

I guess I've never used a torque wrench on them. I use a 3/8" or 1/2" drive ratchet and working out from the middle tighten them a little at a time until they are snugged up. Then I check them a few...

Re: Radiator/ water pump

I don't think that you need to go the stop leak route just yet.
First off is your radiator cap gasket in good shape?
Are you by chance filling the radiator to the top (too full) and coolant is...

Re: Why in the H does the muffler not line up with the exhaust manifold?

I've had to open the bend up on some by placing it in my bench vice and giving it a serious tug or two. Also leaving the tail pipe clamp off or at least very loose during the installation will help...

Re: Mystery leak

Being from Minnesota it could have frozen at some point in the past and not necessarily during shipping. That is a hard place to get a good look at. I'd suggest pulling the floor boards out and...

Re: Mystery leak

Was it shipped from a location that would have freezing temperatures. If so it could be a freeze crack and that could be more troublesome.

Re: Mystery leak

Might not be so bad. Someone might have put a bolt in that was too long or something along that line and knocked the back of the blind hole open into the water jacket. Pull the bolt out and clean the...

Re: Mystery leak

If it is a gallon and a half low it could be a head gasket and it leaked down to the level of the head gasket. Sounds to be about the right amount of coolant that would have been lost.

Re: Horn problems

Pull the cover off and run jumper wires directly from the battery. If it sounds good then you're troubles are elsewhere.

Re: Repairing radiator puncture

Okay I'll admit to doing it.

Expose the area that is leaking and clean it well. Cut a piece of black cotton t-shirt material slightly larger than the area of the leak and saturate it with black...

Re: Installing distributor lower shaft

Yep drop it in, turn it with a screw driver until it drops into place.
With a new shaft you might have to make a few light passes with a flat file to open the slot up just a tad. Have had to do...

Re: Alternatives to the spring-loaded LT connection at distributor?

John I understand what you are saying. That said I've always screwed the distributor onto the armored cable three full rotations once the threads of the armored cable catch. It has never failed me.

Re: Fuel Question

The above answers are spot on. Also use a low octane fuel. High octane is a waste of money and will give poorer performance in an A.

Re: 1930 model A Tudor

Take a few passes with some fine sandpaper through the points to make sure they are clean.
Check your ground from the battery to the frame assure a good ground.

Re: Antique Grease Fittings

I don't find them to be too much trouble to grease if you use the adapter available through the venders. I like the looks of them a lot better than the modern zerks.

If you have a zerk that wont...

Re: AA truck brake switch question

You can loosen the two bolts holding it to the transmission tower and move the body of the switch. Perhaps that will be enough to allow it to activate. If not you will most likely need to pull the...

Re: Need advise buying a 1930 model A coupe

It is difficult to give you an answer without more information and pictures.
That said the price sounds high with it having rust, rot and a bad interior.
Very respectable drivers can be had for...

Re: O/T Explain water bucket mouse trap

Re: Water pump "studs"

Actually Alexiskai I'm one that will remove the cadmium plating off of hardware. I do it all the time. I have a 5 gallon bucket half full of a mix of water and muratic acid just for stripping plating...
