Re: oil filters
There isn't an actual valve. There is a spring in well made filters and a flat piece of metal formed in a bow in the cheaper ones. If the filter media gets plugged the oil pressure collapses the...

That was three years ago. Now you can find it at O'Reilly.

Re: fordomatic fluid
I expect there isn't any published procedure to file a claim against Motorcraft or ACDelco either. If there is I'm sure you have it on file.
I began before mechanics were called techs. Just the...

Re: fordomatic fluid
Forgot to add. In 1966 I was on my way to Viet Nam as a professional helicopter tech. I probably had synthetic oil on my hands before you knew it existed.

Re: fordomatic fluid
It isn't 1966 anymore. I note you don't have anything argumentative to say about extended oil drains.
To your question about Prestone, I doubt any anti-freeze will give a warranty any better...

Re: fordomatic fluid
Only in your mind. Prestone makes an anti-freeze that is compatible with all colors. My pickup, which used to average about 75,000 miles a year, has been on a 30,000 mile oil change schedule with...

Re: Extremely pitted door handle
A few years ago I had all my chrome replated by the same company that does chroming for the shop featured on Iron Resurrection on Motor Trend channel. I was happy with their work and I thought the...

Re: 54 Mercury electrical question
My Ram dually has multiple switched grounds. To add to the confusion, some fuses are on the hot side, some are not. I suggest you try to keep them uniform throughout the vehicle. My '54 fuses are...

Re: 54 Mercury parking brake question
A 50/50 mix of ATF and acetone is the best rust dissolver I know. You might try removing the cables and housings and let them soak awhile, then clean them completely.

Re: 1954 Ford Ranch Wagon door panels
I had a set of door panels made at SMS fabrics a few years ago. The backing boards had holes cut out for the door handles but I had to cut the fabric myself. Their work is excellent and not cheap. ...

Re: Brake puzzle
I've removed, cleaned and reassembled the MC. The piston appeared to be completing it's full travel but I took it apart anyway. Nothing was obviously corroded or damaged so I put it back together. ...

Re: Brake puzzle
I've come to the conclusion that the piston of the MC is stuck in the bore. There isn't anyway to put the free play back into spec, the eccentric bolt can't move the rod an inch. My theory is that...

Re: Brake puzzle
I checked the free play. It is too much. Should be 1/4 to 7/16 inch. It is over an inch. I'll correct that the next time I work on the car, but it isn't the cause of the brake light puzzle.

Re: Brake puzzle
White Post also rebuilt my MC, and I at first thought perhaps the internals were sticking. I'm not leaning that way since the lights come on without touching the brake pedal. I am, however, on my...
