Make sure the idle isn't too fast or the hand throttle isn't advanced.
The sliding gears have to slow down to match the next ratio.
Riding in a friends Model A should help you with your technique.

In California we haven't had an option for non gasohol fuel in years.

The sway bars are the standard ones sold by the major parts dealers. They keep the body from swinging on the shackles around corners. I'm sold on them.

With your 26% Mitchell 2000 rpm is just about 60 mph so...
