Re: 266 versus 276 CI?
Perhaps your machinist did a sonic test and determined there was enough core shift to make the recommendation he did. If it were me, I would listen to him.

Re: The new 1940 Ford Book is now available
Anyone judging a 40 passenger car needs to spend some time with this book. Everyone restoring one needs to HAVE this book if they are truly interested in making the car like it was when it rolled...

Re: headers vs duals
I know of a dyno test of Fenton vs stock exhaust and the stock Ford exhaust manifolds made slightly more HP. The person who performed the test builds everything from flatheads to certified aircraft...

Re: Black single stage paint.
russcc, it is my belief that touching up old lacquer with enamel or urethane would be quite noticeable. If it were me I would find some black lacquer and correct thinner for that and try to blend...

Re: Best paint for painting over rust
Rust Mort is a great way to convert Iron Oxide into black Iron phosphate which stops it. Then paint over it with whatever you want. Of course wire brush or scrape any loose rust off before the Rust...

Re: 91A-8600 Radiator fan
Mac VP I get 3" exactly on the 91A --- 3 5/8" on the 19A . I hooked a tape on the flare at the base where the blades mount and measured to the mounting flange (not the part that indexes into...

Re: Black single stage paint.
I only use single stage paint for the same reason you don't like base/clear. If you don't put clear over the single stage it doesn't have the "plastic" look of base/clear. I have had very good...

Re: 91A-8600 Radiator fan
I have a known 19A fan, will measure it tomorrow. How are you measuring it, from the mounting surface to the backside of the fan blades?

Re: A ‘40 project for Kube?
Yep, I remember all those guys and cars. I think I built a model of the El Matador. The annealed metal certainly moves easier.

Re: A ‘40 project for Kube?
That looks a lot like the car my friend lost last year due to old tires. I posted pictures in my MISC folder when it happened. And yes that car had flames painted on the front before the blown...

Re: Tacking Strip for '40 5W
Fred, you can use 3M black weather strip adhesive and glue tacking material where you can't use original type staples. Around the windshield of my 40 coupe I just glued waterproof cardboard cut to...

Re: 40 Merc under-dash switches
The dash light switch is integral with the headlight switch on 40 Fords, so I suspect same on a Merc. When the headlights are on, the dash lights are on and adjustable via the rheostat you found....

Re: Length Limit for Priority Mail Shipping
Good info regarding USPS measurements. All the carriers seem to use a similar way. The "dimensional weight" idea really sucks. When I complained about being charged for a box that a new seat...

Re: Ticking noise?
Perhaps a worn fuel pump push rod. Check the fan, I know of a club member who had a ticking noise that turned out to be the fan blades were loose on the hub.
Good luck on finding it.

Re: 32 roadster $14K Scam?
Yeah, probably a scam. Only other explanation would be a misplaced decimal. Parts, even if all repro would exceed that price.

Re: Media Blasting 40 Body
Heat gun and putty knife is cheap and easy. Don't overheat it and it comes off like butter. Yes it is a little messy but not that bad. I just did that on my 55 brand X. Like said before, it...
