Go to a junk yard and buy a modern seat adjuster. Modify it by making it narrower. Then modify the seat to floor pan brackets. Put on some brackets to mount the seat to it.

The comfort level is about the same. A 1" foam rubber pad is used and modern foam
is much better than the old cotten pad and spring.

In my pickup I took some of the padding out of seat back and the spring making the
back thinner and gained couple of inches. That might work in your roadster.

I went to a junkyard and got the seat adjuster out of a Saturn. I then
narrowed it and made a few small brackets to accept the 2 door drivers
seat. It now has about 5" of fore and aft adjustment....

I do not know what heating oil cost now days but in 1958 when I started college on the
GI bill and didnt have much money I ran my A with an extra 1 gal tank under the hood
and the oil was 13cents...

A couple of years ago on an open road no traffic I had my 31 pick-up at 60 MPH for
about 3 miles timed by a modern car. It was scary and all over the road. I will
never try it again.
