Re: Which head gasket for the standard engine?
I think that warming it up and then allowing it to cool overnight with coolant in the engine before torqueing again is an excellent way for coolant to seep in between the gasket and block/head. I...

Re: Overheating
Alan you need to know for sure if your engine is overheating or not. Get a cheap dial meat thermometer and place it directly into the coolant to get a temperature reading.

Re: Modern "New" Head Gasket...Opinion Please
Jim torque to 55lbs and torque often until it settles in and stays at 55lbs. Torqueing only a couple three times sets you up for a head gasket failure.
You can over torque (going over 55lbs) but...

Re: Radiator cap
You may need to cut an additional gasket out of an innertube and add it under your existing gasket to get a tight fit. You should not have any water escaping from the radiator cap.
As far as the...

Re: Chasing a chirp
I think that you may be on the right track based on what I found recently on an engine that I was working on for a friend.
The engine was a relatively fresh rebuild with probably less than 1000...

Re: Trying to loosen a seized engine
Glad you have the paper work for it. Most times it is missing.
I didn't think it looked to be rebuilt based on the picture showing the oil grooves in the #1 rod. In the picture it looks as if it...

Re: Trying to loosen a seized engine
Less expensive to do it yourself if you have the tools and the knowledge.
It does need to come apart not only to clean it but to check clearances etc...
To me it doesn't look like it has been...

Re: Head Removal...Humor Me
Sorry but I would not suggest using the rope trick. You will likely break things.
You've gotten the head loose and and are going to win this one in getting it off.
Drive it back down and then up...

Re: Engine runs way too rich!
With the engine warmed up and at idle, screw the mixture adjustment screw in until the engine starts to stumble. Then screw it out until the engine again starts to stumble. Set the adjustment screw...

Re: Exhaust paint
x3 on the High Temp Cast Blast. Snyder's carries it or you can get it online.
Cure it on the gas grill, not in your house oven... trust me on that.

Re: Any advice?
Check your points gap. If you haven't adjusted them the rubbing block has probably worn down and the points may be too close together.

Re: Chasing a chirp
Does the chirp change speed along with engine rpms?
Do you have a mechanics stethoscope that you can use to search for the noise?

Re: Setting Pertronix distributor
It's a 12 volt negative ground set up.
Have it running pretty well tuning it by turning the distributor body. Have not taken it out on the road as of yet.
Thanks

Re: Trailering Model A Cabriolet
If you cover it with a tarp or such any flapping of the covering material can and will do damage in a hurry.
The stretchy plastic wrap used to palletize stuff would be a better option if done...

Re: Old Radiator vs New Radiator
As long as there is coolant over the top of the tubes in the radiator you should be fine. Keep an eye on the coolant level and don't add any unless the tubes will not be covered.
There is a good...

If it's going to be inside then covering it with the super light painters plastic that you can get in bulk rolls works well. Yes I know it is plastic but it's not a heavy tarp like what some are...

Re: Somethihg is leaking
Next time you see it take your finger and swipe some up and taste it. You should be able to tell by taste if it is oil or coolant.
For finding coolant leaks dabbing wadded up toilet paper around...
