Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

My mom is trying to get a good price for it; any ideas on what would be a reasonable asking price for a '29 Fordor Briggs in "Survivor" condition?

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

I'm a rebel so went with method #3 (my own) when reinstalling the pump and pan; I removed the NPT plug and had a man hold pressure on the pump shaft with a brass punch. Only took a moment and she...

Re: Dificulty starting model A

The carbs are rather basic; mine does that. I retard the timing full, then cheat and give it a slight advance. Throttle to the floor as with any flooded carb, idle mixture 1/4 turn open. It should...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Well, I didn't need to bother with the dipper tray removal, as our industrial pressure washer served the purpose of cleaning beneath it rather well. Did take a brief spray of superheated oily...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Well, I finally got to the oil after working on a '40 Buick wiper system that managed to get in my way. Pulled the oil pan drain plug and nothing came out. Pushing an allen key around in there got...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

All fluids save engine oil were dry when I began this. After using the old icepick ploy to expose the differential bolts (pushed so hard on some of the caked junk with my Leatherman pliers that I...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Wow. This is one of those things I probably wouldn't have considered beforehand, but now that I've been told of the issue it seems obvious.

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Yes, good instructions there. My first job was at a high performance marine engine building shop, tearing down and cleaning big blocks all day throughout the process. That part of it will be old...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Right, what you say of course makes perfect sense to me. There was, however, no "golden" oil on the stick at any point. I haven't changed it yet, and it hasn't actually been driven on the road like...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

So, John, when the engine is idling at very low RPM I can hear things from within it. Not combustion events, rather moving components. Others have made the same suggestion as yourself but yours...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Well, there isn't any exhaust. At the start there were the remains of the complete system, but it finally gave up the ghost and fell off the manifold after the first good sustained run. I simply...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

I do wish my old friend and neighbor Richard (Dick) Wiley were still around to have seen this. Dick grew up in Versailles, KY working on Model As in his father's auto garage. Later owned an engine...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Yeah, thanks. That was with the original distributor still in it, with so much shaft wobble from upper bearing failure that gapping the points was really more of a suggestion than an accomplishment....

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

I do also have a first and second start video, not great resolution on the first start but you can see it fire up for the first time in probably 70 years. I said first start in 35 years but have...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Ok, thanks again for the responses! To start with where I left off; I ended up with a 1983 Allis Chalmers I6 flathead forklift that ran fine initially then wouldn't start again. Normally I would...

Re: Distributor stuck

Is there any particular reason to go snug not tight on the distributor set screw?

Re: English language - a bit off topic

One of the more interesting accents to identify along these lines is that of someone from the British Virgin Islands, or thereabouts. I met an older woman at a bar here in NC a while back and had to...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Yeah, it was actually given to my mom by my uncle with the idea that she could sell it and keep the money. He never did anything with it and had it moved to a storage unit in MD some few years ago. ...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Another interesting note, there was a set of ancient wheels and tires that also came inside the car. Imagine my surprise when I discovered those wheels actually don't fit the car. Hub size is...

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

That's the last pic I can scrounge from home, rest still on my work PC. If you zoom in though you can see the bullet hole in the forward center part of the rear door.

Re: 1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Hello all, thanks for the responses. Of course just yesterday I dumped all the camera stuff from my phone onto my work PC, but I do have two pictures here at home from when I had just begun...

1929 Fordor Briggs Running Again

Got it from my uncle, to the best of my knowledge it was parked some time around the beginning of the second world war or just after, and has literally sat in a barn until now. Took my time with it,...
