If you are going with a fabric upholstery. I used the same fabric as a late Ford Taurus.
It looks just like original 40 Ford upholstery

Re: No Brake Lights
Check the voltage going to the switch. I had only three volts going to the switch. Enough to light the lights if jumped but would not light the brake lights if hooked up to the switch.

Re: Change from 16 inch wheels to 15 inch wheels
I put 15 inch wheels on my 40 Tudor.
They came from a 70s' Ford pickup.
Had to go through a couple to find some straight ones.
I used blackwall Radial tires (Cheap).
215 x 15 or 225 x15, with...

How I did it.
An episode of Adventures in the Old Ford Hobby.

Re: ‘40 2 door sedan
As they say it is more cost effective to look for an 85hp car. If the 60 was really cheap, there are a lot of head aches with istalling an 85. Most of all finding a GOOD engine to start with.

I like having NO Radio. Easier to work under the Dash. Strange noises are more apparent.
Although being 76 with crappy hearing and aching joints does not help.

Re: Tires
Find a set of 70s Ford pick up rims 15 inch. Use the 215/75 size. 225/15 are difficult to remove from the rear well opening

Re: Can someone tell me what this is?
I would recommend replacing the ignition resistor. Mine failed on my 40 after 84 years. It was hard figure out that is was bad as it would only fail occasionaly. NAPA under 10 Dollars.

Re: 47 V8 ignition mystery
There was a story years ago about a Flathead with a strange miss. It turned out to be a blocked exhaust manifold , It was full of carbon. I know this is reaching but just a suggestion.
