The painted dot usually denotes the lightest part of the tire and should be alligned with the valve stem. This will minimize the amount of weights needed to balance a tire.

There is a spring type washer that puts pressure against the back of the dash. The washer pressure holds the switch in place after you turn and lock it into the notches in the dash. Then you snap on...
