Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

Indeed they ARE! See photos (found on the web)

It would make sense if one of them had become loose. Could easily be the sound I heard.

Anyone have had that experience?

Re: Rattling fuel pump pushrod tube

No easy removable fuel pump stand in my car. See photos.

So its a manifold job. Or leave for now. IF it wont harm oil pressure.

Re: Small spanner in crankcase??

Admiral! Thats it! There can be no doubt. Seeing that rod and loose tube fits perfectly to the sound I hear. And also makes sense because I had the top off a month ago - and was a bit confused as to...

Small spanner in crankcase??

No. It could not be. BUT ever so often - now and then - i hear a very gentle metallic hammering sound. Like at tiny soft hammer binging on a cast aluminium bell some where inside engine. Only...

Re: strange rattle

Been chasing a slight rattle like you discribe. Today realised it is (likely) coming from the crank case vent tube!! (Which is not loose)Hm. Strange...

Re: Compression: Look. Could there be a problem?

Have discovered a (weak) short cut else where - giving a vaque constant current in the ignition system - and also through the coil. Could that have weakened the (2 week old) coil??

Re: Compression: Look. Could there be a problem?

This is a 60 2.2 litre french flathead 1953. High revs is flat out. Idle bit uneven but ok - acellerating ok. Strangely when closing the points gap to a minimum - engine will run quite better.
