Scuba,,, listen to the advice of both 'tubman' and 'cas3'.
You should always run thermostats, look for any cooling
problems elsewhere. Clean both the radiator and block,
and make sure the timing...

Paul, have you got a good open space to drive the truck around
on your property. If you have some space to drive it in circles,
then put it in gear, hold the clutch pedal down, and start it up...

but curious, did you install a New Pilot bearing/bushing too ?
A wore out pilot bearing/bushing will cause one heck of a shake.

Zeke, that is Not a water tray. It is the tray for the Gasket to set into.
Someone has put in that Little drain...
Do a search for a "cowl gasket" for your car. I think '37 to '48 are all the same...
