Re: KD 917 tool
Look at the guide thru the spring coils. The guides have a round notch just beneath the top of the spring. Run your bar between the coils into the notch and try to pull the guide down.

Re: KD 917 tool
You need to drive the guide down before pulling the clip or you'll just probably tear out the hole in the clip. You also need to be looking for a driver.

Re: Valve differences
While on the subject of valves I need a favor. Original Ford valves had a "bump" around the stem under the valve head. This was actually a bump and not an undercut. I have a mushroom type valve...

Re: Valve differences
Ron, I probably didn't explain things very well, so I'll try again.
If I grind the seat 0.020" (verticaly) then the valve sits lower in the block. Since the horseshoe clip rests against the...

Re: Engine block I.D. pictures
i Believe the '32-'33 valve guides included a frlange instead of the horseshoe clip. Removal of valves had to be done in the valley as the guides could not come out o the top.

Re: Is this a V8 tool ???
Seems to me it pushes the guide up & out of the block after the horsehoe clip has been removed. It doesn't look like it pulls it down to be able to remove the clip.

Re: Rare 21 stud 59A ?
Not to argue but I believe the 41A blocks were 21 stud. Ford had a cutter to enlarge the valve pockets on the left head so the old heads (81* series) could be used on the new 41A block. The cutter...

I agree with Ron the block coolant holes look like they are full of scale and if they are it'll never run cool. Do what you want but if you put it back together as is I'd sure do a vinegar flush on...

Re: Flathead questions
With stock bore and stroke you're looking at a nominal compression ratio of 8.41:1. You will probably have to have the valve pockets enlarged when you change the cam. Thos heads are no longer in...
