Re: Starting issues when warm

By pass everything and connect from the battery post to the starter switch and the positive post to the engine using heavy duty, 6 volt , jumper cables. Those cables can really fool you. Good luck.

Re: Intake & exhaust manifold torque

Just put them at 35 and check them every year. They do relax over time.

Re: dropping the pan

Be sure to turn your wheels all the way to one side or the other. This gets your tie rod out of the way. A quarter inch socket set works good.

Check everything under there for tightness. Something was probably left loose.

That’s probably just a secondary ground if you might need it. Start her up, but have fun doing it.

Re: Little hard to Start today

You can get the big chunks out by flushing the tank like we did in this video. It worked until he removed the tank for painting, then he had it cleaned and coated. Good luck....

Re: Little hard to Start today

Make sure those four manifold nuts are tight, and the carb attachment screws too. An intake air leak can cause your problem.

Re: Oh man. Now I canít even get my A to start or make a noise.

Down to basics. Scratch a big screw driver or wrench across the cable connection on top of the starter to ground for a moment. You should get a big spark. I bet you don't.

Re: Oh man. Now I canít even get my A to start or make a noise.

Here is something easy you can try. With a fully charged battery, push on the starter rod for about 10 second, and quickly put your hand on each connection to see if anything got hot, or warm. If you...

Re: Tight Engine Troubles?

I assume the plugs are out while you are trying to turn it over. I would try pulling it rearward in third gear. Just might start to turn a bit.

Re: 10mpg

Normal, flat city driving, you should get between 16 -20mpg. Make sure you don't have a gas leak. GAV should not be that far open. That's probably your problem. Check for intake air leak.

Re: Intake and Exhaust manifold nut torque

Les Andrews book says 45 ft# but I think that is a bit high. I use between 35 and 40.

Re: Starving for gas at highway speed

King, if you put a new fuel line on check that you don’t have more than 1/8 inch of tubing beyond the ferrule. Common problem. Good luck.

Re: Longest trip you took in a Model A

Our club went from Detroit area to Williamsburg, Va for that National meet.
Go ahead and make that trip. That’s nothing to your car, but you will gain a ton of confidence. After that trip, you...

Re: Horn problems

Back off the adjustment screw until the motor spins freely. No sound. Assuming it will run when the button is pushed, Let the motor spin for about 15 or 20 seconds. This may loosen things up.

Re: Help!!!

Try your horn. If it works, your fuse is good. Easy.
Pass a business card between the points to clean them. If it ran last month, don’t start changing anything. Find the problem and fix that. Good...

Re: Hood supports

If you don’t keep them tight, they can cause a rattle that is hard to find. Just tap on your radiator supports and see if they rattle.

Re: No Spark

You need power at both posts in the terminal box. Easy to track down. Check you fuse.
If you have power at ammeter, you must have it into and out of the term box.

The new ones are reinforced but you may have to do a little grinding to make them fit and function properly.

Re: Engine not starting - checked everything - no more idea

Spray the starting fluid on the manifold gasket while cranking. Thatís my guess. I changed a gasket today. Check torque on the four manifold nuts.

Re: Engine not starting - checked everything - no more idea

Stick your finger in the carb and see if it is wet with fuel. If you do, the. Fuel system is probably your problem. Remember, 90% of all carb problems are ignition problems.
Connect a test light...
