Re: 21 stud engine best upgrades?

Your LB is a VERY poor engine to modify for more power. After market heads and manifolds can be found but are scarce and quite a bit more costly than parts for the 49-53 engines. The blocks can not...

Re: dump tubes

And that reminds me of a guy that was in our club way back in the "olden dayz".
He owned a race shop and had a chassis dyno. He drag raced a 49 Pontiac with a straight 8 in it. After doing some...

Re: headers that work with original steering box

"W" type will SOMETIMES solve the steering clearance problem.

It is not pertinent to a street engine but W type headers will make more hp on a race engine.

Re: dump tubes

Dump tubes or lakes plugs.

Dump tubes were also the tubes in carb venturi's where the fuel was dumped into the air stream. We still install oversize ones in 48's for nitro.

Re: The new Burtz Mosel A engine

You are absolutely correct. "Fully" is interpreted two different ways here.
It is NOT the best word to use.
You can not get enough weight on the crank to 100% balance it. There is not enough room...

Re: 8ba valve train help needed

Whatever you get for a cam, 274 is too much for a mild street engine.
Isky 185 or zephyr springs are plenty adaquate. 60 lb. on the seat is plenty for a mild cam.
Stock valves will work ok.
You...

Re: The new Burtz Mosel A engine

To fully balance a 4 cylinder in-line engine, you balance the individual pieces first. This means rods end for end, pistons, pins, rings, pin retainers if used and rod bearings.
Then you balance the...

Re: Best steering box for an A

Either the F100 or F1 will work. The F1 may be a bit more involved to install. This is because the shaft goes into the gear box on the bottom of the sector and the F100 goes in on the top. This...

Re: The new Burtz Mosel A engine

Not necessarily. That system is used because it works for a production engine.
It is NOT the best or most accurate way. It is adaquate only.

It is also why some engines shake and some don't even...

Re: Leaking Gas Tank

Chemical sealers are like playing Russian roulette.
Take the tank out and have it fixed right.

Re: Welding early aluminum heads

I have welded a few flathead OEM aluminum heads. Mostly corrosion marks around the water holes. Just like a dentist, you have o grind out all of the bad before you can put new in. Welding on a...

Re: Car wash bucket....

For a car that is not o be judged, anything will work. Get the cheapest, on sale stuff available. If it happens to strip the paint, you can always sue for a new paint job.

Re: Highest Reliable Compression Ratio

Yes, I hear you there. That was a figure of speech but I do have a dash plaque from the SCTA that says, 154.7.
My point was that while a stock model A body has an extremely poor drag coefficent and...

Re: Highest Reliable Compression Ratio

That is fun, especially if they want to try you out and you just drive away.
I have the B engine out of my 2 door right now and have a 450 hp crate engine in it. It will do 155 and is just like a...

Re: Highest Reliable Compression Ratio

You only have to go as fast as you want to.

If your "touring" cam idles lousy, it was either ground by the wrong guy or installed by the wrong guy.
A quality "touring" cam will idle SMOOTH at 400...

Re: Highest Reliable Compression Ratio

For what it is worth, I ran a little over 10 to 1 on a babbit engine for about 7000 miles. The bearings were still like new when I sold it. There were 2 hill climb meets on it besides the usual...

Re: Voltmeter install

Accurate voltmeters that will fit are available from electronics suppliers.
You can tell a lot more about the system with a voltmeter if you know what to look for.

Re: Steering Box 7 tooth vs 2 Tooth vs F100

Use s 37 to 48 cross steer box for RHD. Mount it for side steer. Use the frame kickout mounting method. No mods required to the box itself.
