Re: 272 oil pump prime

A hanger will fit depending on what gauge wire it is, but the problem is the oil passages to the rockers aren't a straight shot to the center cam bearing. They make a dogleg under the heads about 1...

Re: 272 oil pump prime

No problem with Vaseline, it will just dissolve when the pump starts pumping oil. The nut w/plunger and spring is the pressure relief valve. It is not an adjustment.

Re: 272 oil pump prime

Yes, counter clockwise (or anti-clockwise if you prefer). Remove the valve covers and spin the pump until you see oil at the rockers.

Re: 272 oil pump prime

I'd fill it with oil, 90 wt gear oil. If dry it will eventually pick up oil from the pan but it cold take 30+ seconds. The small amount of gear oil won't hurt anything in the engine.

Re: Dual chamber master cylinder for drum brakes

It was what was immediately available locally when I needed one. It worked just fine and is still working just fine per the guy I sold the car to. Improvisation is the very soul of hot rodding.

Re: Dual chamber master cylinder for drum brakes

A late '60's/early 70's Malibu drum/drum master is a near bolt on, may need to drill 1 hole in the firewall. Any dual master you get will make your pushrod a tad short, but adjustable length pushrods...

I've had several rads re-cored with no issues. Pick a shop that's been around since God was a lieutenant and does a lot of business and drive on with confidence. JMO

Re: 80 over rebuild

My "Huh?" response was to a spam post in what appeared to Russian. The moderator must have removed it. I understand about bore limits and core shift.

Re: Overdrive parts availabiliy

You may know this already, but to remove the solenoid you need to turn it about 1/4 turn counterclockwise to release it from the pawl inside the trans. When reinstalling or installing a new one you...

Re: Overdrive parts availabiliy

The solenoid grounds through its case to the transmission. You can run an extra ground from one of the solenoid mounting bolts to the frame. Extra grounds don't hurt anything.

One other question....

Re: Overdrive parts availabiliy

Did you run the wire to the terminal on the solenoid marked "6" as rotorwrench suggested? Sometimes the marking is very faint. You can actually touch the jumper to both terminals in turn. if you...

Re: '56/'57 Lincoln Continental Mk II

It's something Jay Leno may be interested in if somebody knows how to get ahold of him. He did a segment on a MK II on Jay Leno's Garage recently but it wasn't his car.

Re: '56/'57 Lincoln Continental Mk II

Re: Overdrive parts availabiliy

Have you run a diagnosis on the solenoid? Two ways to do it:

1) Connect a long jumper wire to the wire that leads down from the relay to the solenoid, then touch the other end of the jumper to...

Re: Overdrive parts availabiliy

You can test the governor by removing it and chucking it up in a drill. Attach a VOM set for continuity to the lead and ground. Spin it up and you should see/hear continuity when the contacts close....

Re: Overdrive parts availabiliy

One word of caution about repop solenoids: before you install one remove the cap and observe the action of the heavy amperage pull-in coil contact (the lower contact closest to the base) to be sure...
