Re: .Is this old "Y"block a 54 or 55 ? or what?

If you have a '56 ECZ-A intake on the engine in a '55, someone swapped it on there for the original. You could double check the engine block casting number too....

Re: Tires

Semi-related question...
How old are the tires on the car? Most tire shops won't service tires over 6 to 8 years old due to potential liability for failures. If they're getting up there, a new pair...

Re: Tires

I have an opinion of coker tires but if you're going to replace just the one tire, stick with a duplicate of what you have. Having a different mis-matched tire is generally not a good way to go.

Re: .Is this old "Y"block a 54 or 55 ? or what?

Yes, the dual canister '56 (Loadomatic) distributor normally goes on the '56 4 bbl engines.
It's my understanding the 2 bbl '56 engines used a single sided canister.

Re: Electric vs. windup clock for '55 Ford car

The fellow that runs this outfit does excellent restorations of early/mid 60's T-Birds as a hobby and I've heard very good things about his clock repairs too.

Re: Is it possible to install a fuel pump incorrectly on a 292 Y-block

I hope someone knows what position of the engine puts that eccentric ring "up".
So the fuel pump lever can go under it more easily. Otherwise you have to fight more of the spring pressure of the...

Re: Is it possible to install a fuel pump incorrectly on a 292 Y-block

If the back side of the fuel pump lever / arm has scrape marks on it, it may be slipping off in front of the eccentric ring instead of being under it. ???

Assuming there's fuel in the tank and the...

Re: radial tires on a 55 car wheel (orig)

I'm not sure I understand your question.

The smaller hub caps, full wheel covers?
Some full wheel covers do lose their grip over time and fly off when cornering.
Bending the tabs on the back...

Re: Will this steering wheel work?

There's a good chance swapping a '56 steering column into a '55 may work. At least it does for the '55, '56 T-Birds. Their steering columns are similar enough that swapping them is not a real...

Re: Will this steering wheel work?

I only have 2 T-Bird examples and I've not had the oem steering wheel off of either of them. Never had my hands on a full-sized Ford steering wheel either.
If there's a reason it will or won't work,...

Re: .Is this old "Y"block a 54 or 55 ? or what?

It's true, the '55 and newer heads use 18mm.
I found out the hard way 10 yrs ago, cost me about $1500.

Re: Will this steering wheel work?

If I'm not mistaken about the full-sized Fords the '55 steering wheels were a 2 spoke 'flat' style wheel.
The '56 & '57(?) were a 3 spoke style with about a 3 inch 'dish' to them on a slighter...

Hopefully someone with a Canadian Ford book will notice your post.
The Canadian Ford data is not the same as the US versions, only 'just barely' similar.

Re: Fan shroud seal ('57 thunderbird)

Re: Toploader main shaft interchange

Make sure the pitch of the speedo gear on the tail-shaft and the driven gear on the speedo cable match each other. Not sure if they can be right or left handed but check first.

Yes, ECZ-A a '56 4bbl intake manifold casting number. (photo 3 below)

ECZ-6015-A is a '56 292/312 engine block number.

Re: .Is this old "Y"block a 54 or 55 ? or what?

Dana Barlow,
Like HRR said, you have to find the engine block casting number first. It will have "6015" in the middle of it.
There are sample photos of their locations at the link he provided.

Re: New Owner

There's a shallow oil passage groove in the underside of each head that gets clogged very easily, it supplies oil to the rocker arms.

Re: Blinker on if pilot light off

You may have loose or oxidized ground connections at some of the...
