Re: Loosen / tighten individual cylinder head nuts?

Larry Brumfield and others recommend re-torque sequence with engine warm, then completely cooled off followed by backing off nuts no more than 1/8th turn, one at a time before setting torque.

Re: Painting black insert in 30/31 instrument panel

Old '31 method 1 works well. One can use any small squeeze bottle with a tiny snout filled with striping or similar enamel thinned if required. Also good for filling in logo voids on running board...

Re: Why Grease should not be used in a Steering Gearbox

I've had the corn head separate and liquefy in the 2 tooth steering box, tending to leak more than expected. Switched over to modern 1500wt lube in the steering and rear end.. Also, the box has a...

Re: Who makes F 150 T 170 transmission kits?

The BV (27.6%) code is preferred by many owners with heavy sedans, though some of the F150 lower gear ratios are similar to Model A.

Re: It Was Tough But......

Check out McMaster's price for a 36x36 sheet. Maybe try some diamond mesh stucco lath and paint flat black.

Re: correct fastners for 31 slant window

Go to Brattons A parts (or other vendors) and type in Door Check parts for info. for the hardware. Also, original unmodified SW sedans I've seen had the slots in the machine screws aligned...

Re: Laskey Trunk

That's a great find. Hopefully it will fit either style of the A luggage racks, the one in the service bulletins or the repro style with slats.

Re: LED Headlights

Did you all need to use load equalizers or resistors for each bulb?

Re: Engine Oil

See the "Microlon" thread. The use of zinc has been debated but found to be beneficial in classic and horiz. opposed cylinder engines. Shell Rotella used to have higher levels of zinc but the levels...

Re: Microlon engine treatment

The study in post 2 is informative. Zinc has been found to be beneficial for horiz. opposed cylinder engines at the tappets/ lifters, etc. (study published by the Amer. Porsche Club). Higher levels...

Re: 12 volt Battery in Battery Box

The A vendors sell brackets for the Optima batteries if you go that route. Also, check if the batteries are designed for various climate extremes based on inner plate parameters.

Re: latest issue of restorer

An alternative, so as not to destroy a good guard, would be to buy some 2.5 or 3.4 # diamond or similar mesh (plaster lath, etc), or perforated metal, paint black and apply to the core front or with...

Re: Cylinder #4 Running Hot

Wouldn't running a small pipe to the rear of the block be good insurance when using a thermostat ? If to the back of the head, wouldn't much of the coolant be forced forward by the pump action with...

Re: Fs ignitions

I had the 12 v FS zipper which was good except on hills with a H.C. head.; it wouldn't retard enough to prevent knocking. Some owners modify the internals to be able to rotate the dizzy assembly or...

Re: Benefits of a thermostat?

Re: Benefits of a thermostat?

See other threads, many opinions. The Model A has no bypass system like later and modern cars do to circulate the coolant until the stat opens. Hot spots can potentially occur with stagnant flow...

Re: Adjustable Drag Link

Have done the one using a Moog adjustable sleeve using the dies as posted on an old extra drag link. Cut enough threads but don't cut out too much of the drag to get the most support from the sleeve....
