Re: Fairfield Garage
A really cool comparison picture! Look at all those gas pumps! Quite a few for those days I think, and that BIG old tree behind the end of the building wasn't even there in the old photo.

Re: 16 Day transformation of 30 pickup.
Good job Wick! It takes me 16 days just to THINK about a big project that needs to be done. Did you paint the radiator shell or actually have a half-ton pickup shell? Those are super hard to find a...

Re: War years
Shortages and manufacturing cut-backs or suspensions didn't really get serious until late '42 into '43 and for the rest of the war. There would be no problem getting tires in '40 or '41. Shortages of...

Re: rotor cap
Be careful if you try and bend the rotor tab. I broke the re-pro rotor doing so once. I think the re-pros are plastic, maybe different than an old rotor, maybe Bakelite(?). The solder-on tab makes...

Re: Pre Osha
There was no OSHA present back when I was installing paging antennae on the rooftops of Boston's prudential tower and Hancock tower on the out edges of those roofs. No harness. Often thought about...

Re: Blocking manifold heater tube
As mentioned, a can lid of perfect size, painted firewall color, a dab of GOOP to stick it on. It would look a bit more 1930-ish than a rubber ball.

Re: Fan catastrophe avoided
Breaking fan blades is not just a Model A Ford problem. Any old car similar to our Fords age is liable to throw a blade. I also have a '25 Dodge Brothers and on the AACA website whereas a man just...

Re: Fan catastrophe avoided
One can only imagine how big the Ford Model A "service bulletins" book would be if Ford kept it going for 90 years! The things we all have learned or even brought to light for others on this website...

Re: Window Sticker Price
I guess radio, newspapers and magazines mostly and at each salesroom. I do recall seeing a very early sticker, quite small, on the window, but I'm not so sure it was on a Model A, but it was from...

It may be a '29 Ford Std. roadster behind the Caddy, The other roadster driving away to the right may be a '29 or '30 DeSoto.

Re: Weird bolt in engine block
Possibly a bullet hole patch? Might be some JB Weld around it for any cracks under all the paint around the bolt patch? I've seen fairly clean bullet holes in old, abandoned sawmill engines out in...

Re: Aluminum radiators for Model A
Such a shame Gary Bergbower retired (Berg's Radiator). I do wish someone out near him could take over his business. I've had excellent results with one of his cores about 8 years ago, still going...

Re: At a lost here
"What Brent said", other than that, I doubt it's a cam bearing, could it be from an earlier engine re-build whereas these pieces could have been overlooked and caught in a "sludgy" corner that...

Re: Why is emergency brake not working?
It should, but please remember, it's a parking brake, more than an emergency brake. It has been known by many, the parking brake metal frame can get twisted like a pretzel when the brake lining grabs...

Re: engine vibration part 2
A small bottle jack and a chunk of wood will do it too. The vibration could be normal if it's small, otherwise a bent or sagging frame might set up a vibration. The sag can twist the whole running...

I've been running on Goodyear Diamond Treads for 15 years now, no problems, nice ride, no dry cracks and plenty of tread still left after thousands of miles. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Re: Tilly Warpage
I don't believe it's a heat thing, pot metal will warp, crack, expand, crumble on its own given enough time. For many years I've restored antique coin-operated machines, not much heat there--some of...
