'34 Pickup Windshield Rattle
Annoying clatter from the top of the windshield. Once the speed is up to 40 mph or so, it goes away. Does not happen with windshield swung out to the first notch. Tried a foam strip; - no help.

Re: Whirring noise .. from I don’t know where
Long shot. Be sure you have enough free play in your clutch, and that the return spring on the throw out bearing is working. The test is to put your foot on the clutch when the noise is happening. ...

Re: Red dirt rising
Thoroughly enjoyed the cars. And what great drivers they were in those races. No one even got a scratch!

Re: lowering a '41
The front suspension of the '41 is a one-year odd ball transition between the '40 and '42 - '48. The distance between spring perches on the axel is different, and Posie's doesn't make the exact fit....

Re: Bolt remover socket
I use a battery powered impact wrench. It has three power settings.
Start with the lowest setting. Give it 1 second burst of tighten, followed by two second loosening. Go through that routine...

Re: Changed The Weight Of My Oil
Definitely a good choice for break-in, but it does not contain enough detergent for year after year. I run four quarts of any good brand of 10w-30 plus one quart of VR-1 to boost the zinc a little.

Re: Shock linkage
It is a snap with this little gadget. I forget which old Ford parts place I got it.

Re: Headbolt
Not unusual for a few head bolts to leak for a while after rebuild. Most of the time the leaks will stop themselves, without having to pull the heads. A bottle of Bars Leaks might be worth a try. ...

Re: In defense of 6 cylinders
To each his own. Your "plain Jane" '53 is a sweet ride. For what I spent to get my flathead V8 souped up from 95 to maybe 160 horsepower I could have dropped in a 500 horsepower crate engine. But...

Re: Muggy Weld
I have used it to solder broken spokes on '41 Ford horn ring. It is a high stress part and most of them have broken. I gouged out the underside and soldered there. The crack is barely visible on...

Re: Merc In The Snow
Not sure I would be going that fast with street treads on packed snow, but really enjoyed the undercarriage view, with the grass whipping the camera!

Re: Temperature
Respectfully, why not?
A couple small holes let some water through while the engine is warming up to thermostat opening temp. Particularly on the 59a/b blocks the thermostat is far enough from...

15" Rims
My brother is looking for a useable set (4 or 5) of stock 15" rims for his '46 coupe in the Reno Nevada area. Speedway has rims with 7" bead width, but at $120 each, beyond the budget. Nothing on...

Re: Carburettor storage.
Put it in a coffee can or such, and fill with kerosene. No corrosion, no shrinkage or disintegration of rubber parts or gaskets. Cheap. Not a fire hazard.

Re: Ignition switch woes
Rebuilding the ignition switch is tricky but doable by anyone with reasonable small-motor coordination. I did it decades ago on my '35 coupe and would not want to have to do it again. To prolong...
