Re: front axle spindles
Maybe give Bert's Model A Center near Denver a call? I happened to be out there a couple of weeks ago and Steve was nice enough to give me a tour of the place. It is huge and a very impressive...

Re: Power Issue?
Rex, after you do all of the stuff others have suggested, make sure you don't have a dragging brake (or two). Possible if the car has been sitting for a while

Re: Stumped
You want to keep anything abrasive out of the shutoff valve. That stuff will eventually cause the valve to stick or not completely shut off.

Re: Fuel tank strainer,screen?
I agree completely with you guys. I have one in my car. I do believe that properly grounding the nozzle is even more important. BTW you can get a static discharge improperly fueling a plastic...

Re: Fuel tank strainer,screen?
If you guys want to be precise, that is technically a FLAME ARRESTOR, not a SPARK ARRESTOR. Spark arrestors are typically found in exhaust systems to prevent hot particles (carbon) from passing...

Re: Stubborn Swan Cap.
Jim, you said you removed THE set screw. On my cap, there are 2 screws that hold 2 locking tabs to the base of the cap. When I got my cat those set screws were hidden under a bunch of gunk. Took me...

Re: Model A or T in Caribbean ?
I agree rotorwrench. Cuba is a bit different than the rest of the Caribbean in that a '58 Plymouth isn't a classic there, it is just transportation that is paid for.

Re: Model A or T in Caribbean ?
I would add that in the Greater Antilles countries like the DR, Haiti, Jamaica, and Cuba to a lesser extent, driving a car seen as flashy is like putting a target on your back. You are just asking...

Re: Model A or T in Caribbean ?
I spent about 7 years living in the Eastern Caribbean. That time was split amongst just about all of the islands between the VI and Grenada. I never saw a single pre 1960s car. Probably only a few...

Re: Strange head gasket issue
The head and block both looked OK using a metal straight edge. I used the Best gasket but the website said NOT to use anything on it. Hopefully it will be ok.
Snyders says torque the head to 55,...

Re: Strange head gasket issue
I had time to remove the head today. It came apart easily and I cleaned the block & head with carb cleaner and a microfiber towel. There is a dark line on the block that bothers me a bit. It extends...

Re: Strange head gasket issue
It was a new head. I retorqued the head as directed at 50 miles, 100 miles and 500 miles. I ordered the Best gasket and will dig into it next week. Very curious what I find. Thanks for the...

Strange head gasket issue
I found this today. 1200 miles since rebuild, no leaks, car runs great. Snyder 5.5 head.
It looks like the core of the head gasket is squeezing out at the rear. The copper is still in place. ...

Re: Where to put the spare?
Where is your spare now? You can probably tell what your car came with by looking at the frame. I believe the factory side mount arms were riveted to the frame. The add ons would usually be...

Re: 1929 tudor flathead v8 conversion
Something else to consider when adding "performance": adding horsepower and weight is easy. But how much extra power and weight do you add before your brakes can't handle it? How fast do you drive...
