Re: Pinion Bearing Lubrication
I just use some very light oil - as I know once I fill up the banjo with gear lube, it will be immersed in it. Just don't forget to put the gear lube in! Have you checked the pre-load on the pinion...

Re: 59A low compression #4 cyl
Since you've come this far, why waste a set of head gaskets on it - when you really don't know the issue. If it was mine, I'd take it all the way down - being careful to label where all the parts go...

Re: Rebuilt starter
I went ahead and bought the 12V 56 Ford model - as I want to go through the conversion process with a 6V core and see how things work out.

Re: Original 1932 Standard Coupe up for auction
Somebody had better want it really bad to throw $40K at it . . . and then tens of thousands more to get it "restored" or "hotrodded" - the money will be spent in some direction and now they'll have...

Re: how to measure crankshaft end play
I try to stay within the spec . . . otherwise either the thrust surfaces of the rear main bearings are worn, or the crank thrust surfaces . . . or both.

Re: Water is not supposed to be there...
Looks like a crack to me. You'll need to pull the motor down to sleeve it anyway, so I'd do a pressure test on the block - you'll then know for sure where the crack(s) are.

Re: Water is not supposed to be there...
Yep - that would do it! Has had water in the cylinder for awhile - can see the rust pitting.
My guess is that you should be able to sleeve that one hole, put new rings on the piston and be good...

Re: 1940 Ford Cluster Gear Question
The cluster you have is very serviceable - especially if somebody takes a high-speed die-grinder and polishes the tips of the teeth in question. It is easy to do and I've done it on quite a few used...

Re: WHO Is the Oldest Early V8 Forum Member?
Hell, I'm a babe in the woods, 61 . . . hard to imagine as I think I act like about 16 at any given time of day.
Truthfully, I hope I can act like a child at LEAST once a day - every day! LOL

Re: 1940 Ford Cluster Gear Question
I've had quite a few NOS cluster gears and I do not see this particular cluster as NOS. It has chipping on the initial engagement part of some teeth and also you can see the wear on the sides of the...

Re: Prewar heads on a 8BA
Yes, really not a big deal other than one extra water hole (on the passenger side of the block deck surface) that will need to be threaded and a plug put in.
You'll need to use 39-48 head...

Re: Missing main caps a big problem?
From what I can tell by the pictures, I think you did just fine on this deal! All the spare parts add up (like the oil pan). Keep us posted after you have it cleaned up, magged and pressure tested!

Re: S curve radiator hoses, warning .
When you put a later flathead in a 32 - the lower water pump connections are quite a bit lower than an original 32 engine (actually below the cross-member).
The nicely formed "S-Hoses" are a...

Re: High hp flathead build posted 20 hrs ago
Was a fun video . . . though I wonder about his final HP number - seems higher than I would imagine. BUT - we all know that folks who run dyno's always want their customers to "like the numbers"...

I hope you're rebuilding the truck and plan on going through this engine and will be putting the good ole' flathead back in it.

Re: C59A bearings questions
No problem. I used to have to buy multiple sets of bearings to get the clearances the way I wanted them. I got tired of that crap and decided to have the machine shop grind the crank to exactly...

Re: What clutch would you use?
I'd just go with a 10" long style clutch, have the lip machine off of the flywheel and have it drilled for a 10" clutch, balance the assembly and be good to go. I'd probably go to Ft Wayne and have...

Re: Missing main caps a big problem?
If you give the blocks a very thorough inspection (especially in the valve transfer area) and they appear to be good, then it is really not a big deal putting new main caps on one - it is just a bit...
