Re: 64 Galaxie rear leaf spring

sawing it off will not solve the problem. He will still have rusted bolt shank stuck inside the bushing.
I had the same issue on my '55 bird. I sprayed penetrant on it each day for about a week. I...

Re: Carb Spacer

If you decide to make one. you should use the gasket as your template for cutting the holes into the new, thicker material. I don't know what materials, tools you have available. Personally, I would...

Re: ('55) T-Bird brake pedal

According to my parts digest the same pedal arm is used on both standard and automatic shift.

Re: INTERIOR PaintColors for 1955 Ford

Seems to me that interior and exterior color is the same. I know on my 1955 Thunderbird the whole car, from the factory, is painted inside and out. The engine compartment, interior, and exterior all...

Re: 57 T Bird non porthole top

I cannot say for sure but I do know the tops will fit all three years the only difference is the rear clamps and clamping plates. As far as I know you could get a hard top and after mid1956 you had...

Re: Rear brake question

I don't know the answer to your question but I would assume the answer is "no". If I remember correctly the '57 has a 9" rear end. I guess if you had the parts readily available you could try a fit...

Re: Wanted

I'm not sure if they are the same but my 55 Thunderbird has V8 emblems on the fenders. If they are the same you may have some luck finding N.O.S. at one of the Thunderbird suppliers (if N.O.S. is a...

Re: Any Advice on this Vacuum Gauge Reading?

Man! Last time I worked on a "Y" block was in the late 1970's. LOL. Anyway. My take on your exhaust temps is that one cylinder is firing intermittently or maybe not at all. The temperature you're...

Re: Any Advice on this Vacuum Gauge Reading?

I don't have much experience with "Y" blocks. I am wondering if you might have a vacuum leak in a line or diaphragm somewhere in the system. Do you have a way to do a smoke test to see if there's any...

Re: 56 T-bird rebuild

My thoughts are a broken cam but you said you adjusted the valves. You would have noticed there was no lift on those rear cylinders when you were making adjustments. Therefore I would suspect...

Re: '55 T-bird bucket seats?

I picked up a set of buckets from a 1964 Thunderbird. I plan to install them when I put my car back together. They look to me like they will fit just fine. Good thing is that I can buy new covers for...

Re: Mercury M100 logo font

What about possibly 3D printing? Sometimes used for very small runs of parts or even to make a mold for casting something from a metal not so conducive to 3D printing.

Re: 1955 Ford stationwagon

I'm doing a modification on my dash. I do not plan on using the clock or the tach. I bought a couple of dual gauges to mount in the holes. I will "black out" the portion of the dash pod that has the...

Re: 1955 Ford stationwagon

yes, the 55 & 56 Thunderbird cluster pods are the same as the 55 full size Ford. But as mentioned earlier the gauges are pretty much the same gauges. However. If you need to order any parts you can...

Re: 1955 T-Bird early(1954) VIN

Huh??? I'm confused!? I have a 302 automatic (Windsor) in my '55. The engine and transmission are out of an "80 Thunderbird and it is definitely rear sump oil pan. My car had already been setup for a...

Re: 1955 T-Bird early(1954) VIN

Hmmmm. Helper springs? that surprises me because the big block Ford (390) weighs almost the same as the original "Y" block.

Re: 1955 T-Bird early(1954) VIN

I'm sure either will fit.
The Cleveland measurements are average 24-1/2 wide by 29 long by 28-1/2 high.
The Windsor engine measurement average are 24 wide by 29 long by 27-1/2 high.
"Y" block...

Re: 1955 T-Bird early(1954) VIN

I cannot remember the specific numbers but I think the original 292 engine had a rating of around 180 HP. Then if I remember correctly the 302 for 1974 (due to all the emission controls and engine...

Re: A Pillar Wind Noise Water Leaks

I know on my Thunderbird the A pillar on the door is removable and does have some adjustment. I would take a look at that also while doing door adjustments to improve the sealing surface. Last ditch...

Re: 1955 T-Bird early(1954) VIN

I've seen 289, 302, 351W's in the little birds. The only issue is the engine is lighter than the original "Y" block so the front rises up a little bit (changing the stance of the car). Some people...

Re: 1955 T-Bird early(1954) VIN

I would suggest also that when you fabricate the mounts to install the newer drivetrain make it a bolt on affair in case someone with lots of $ and or the correct Thunderbird parts can go back to...

Re: A Pillar Wind Noise Water Leaks

My guess would be that after many years of use (opening and closing of doors) that possibly the pillar has bent outward slightly and is causing the lack of seal. I would first try to improve on seal...
