I think the rim flexing is a real thing. I believe Ford made heavier rims for HD situations like wagons, police, HP. They were usually at least half inch wider. Nothing I've owned from the 70's would...

Can you just use the OD as is and get longer driveshaft? Galaxie's came with the long output shaft on 4 speeds, not sure on 3 speeds. Last year for manual in Galaxie was 1971. I know not helpful....

I helped/watched a friend put a Dana from a wagon in a 56 Victoria from a 56 wagon, he also put a T85 and a 427 in front of it. But 50 years ago is a long time. Anything possible over the years. BTW...

Yes if you change lube try to get a picture. Until now I thought the Dana only came in wagons and Tbird in 56 or trucks.
