The regulators mounts in the three holes diagonal from the area I am referencing.

Interesting BlueOval, I assumed it was the other way around for production simplicity and efficiency's sake.

I currently have an okay one with both inserts and a rough one with a top insert only....

Bob, out of the 600-something thousand 1931 Fords were many of the early 31s a "1930" shell? That's something I've wondered, too.
