Re: Clock for a 52-53 Mercury

Thanks for this. I've been running a Borg clock from a '50 on a power supply for a few weeks now after servicing, and there is a tiny spark when the points make their momentary contact, causing some...

Re: Probably the wrong auction venue for this car.

Yes, I forgot to mention Blazers and Broncos. They seem like the must have at any cost for the obviously well heeled crowd there in Scottsdale.

Re: Probably the wrong auction venue for this car.

I watched the auction on TV. Insane prices for pickups and muscle cars. Classics not so much. I know I overpaid for my '50, but like others said, it's my hobby, not an investment. Somebody got a...

Re: 1950 Ford sedan seat too far forward

I feel your pain. I'm only 6'1" 200#, but with the seat all the way back, my knee was on the shift lever and steering wheel in my belly. I know the average guy was shorter in '50 and I knew I needed...

Re: Yes, times they are a changing

Here's the listing. I'm not an expert on '35's, but pictures show some flaws. Peeling paint, etc. Price listed as $30,800. https://www.mecum.com/lots/1101832/1935-ford-roadster/?aa_id=497875-0

Re: Side molding for 1950 Ford 2 door sedan

Check out "Shoebox Fords" Facebook page. There are some pieces for sale there right now. Here's photo of my '50 custom for reference.

Re: 53 merc v8 overheating

Take the rad. cap off and check for bubbles in the coolant before it boils over. Doesn't that indicate a head gasket problem?

Re: Merc OD

@rotorwrench. Thanks for the explanation. That's some eye opening automotive theory. Tradeoffs in everything. I certainly will factor that into my driving habits and keep the brakes in top shape.

Re: Merc OD

Was "timing gears" a typo? Did you mean transmission gears? Lots of good easy to understand info on overdrive in this thread and I've looked around a lot. I'm in my first o/d car and trying to learn...

Re: Bleed down on vacuum advance question

Good point. I have 3 Made in china from a popular 49-51 mail order place and they all leak down regardless of the vacuum applied. Finally got smart and ordered one from a local napa. Echlin made in...

Re: Bleed down on vacuum advance question

Yes, the pump is new and will hold. I don't know from experience, but am thinking the large diaphragm and crimped construction, maybe that's just the way it is. Then again, making an airtight seal...

Bleed down on vacuum advance question

The first new vacuum advance control sent for my stock 8ba loadamatic distributor would not hold vacuum when applied by an Actron hand vacuum pump. A replacement was sent and I pump it to 15# and it...

Re: 50 flathead V8 temp. sending units

Get the digital thermometer with aiming laser, then you will know for sure what the temps are where on the engine. I have the 160 stats in my '50 now, with the hole, like you. I also had 190 stats....
