Along with the 8V battery there also was a dual 6V with an added solenoid to give 12 volts for starting only. The 2 sixes normally ran in parallel until you tried to start the engine, hit the button...

If using 12V to jump a 6V car only hook the jumpers up when the starter is engaged, also be careful and make sure all lights are turned off, this can be a quick path to all new bulbs.

I used a 1" brush, and high temp black for the exhaust manifolds, after 5 years in the car it looks just as good.
