There are sleeves that limit the amount of tightening.

If the nuts are bottomed out and beyond the cotter pin holes, something is incorrect. If possible, match everything to original parts.

Understand that all 197 1931 Town Car bodies where custom hand made by Briggs body company for Ford. Nearly none of the wood frame work or body aluminum skins would fit a different body....
