Have an experienced welder tig weld an extension to the broken stud. Then treat with penetrant and try to loosen it.

Have also used ARP studs in the last engines that I've worked on. I have been to their manufacturing facility. And yes, they are very familiar with the Model A.

Dear hard times,
Yes, the dowels at VERY important. Without them, there is a great chance that your flywheel bolts will shear off and cause many problems.
