Re: Oil capacity clarification

The most important thing we need to know is the actual level of the oil when "FULL". Too many tube and stick variations.
I got an 8RT pan and put 5 quarts of oil in it. This measured 5" from the...

Re: Oil capacity clarification

I have two 8BA's. Tube should measure 7 3/4" extended from the fitting on the oil pan.
The FULL mark should be 12 1/2" below that.

Re: Engine loping along. Cannot retard spark.

You need to rotate the body of the distributor by one or two teeth.
Make a mental note of where no. 1 sparkplug wire comes out of the cap.
Remove the cap and turn over the motor so that the rotor...

Re: 8ba oil pump question

It probably makes no difference, either way. The main concern is that the surface that faces the gears is flat and smooth. The bruising of the surface caused by the spring washers will be worse than...

Re: 1947 Ford Flathead Clutch Replacement

Have you removed the rear wheels? I never had a problem with floor pan clearance.

Re: 1947 Ford Flathead Clutch Replacement

If you do it by taking out the engine. Carefully mark where the hinges bolt to the cowel. I prefer to drop the diff, with wheels removed. You can change the clutch from the top. Make sure to use a...

Re: 8BA oil filter disconnected; trouble?

That makes sense. I've had 8BA's but not in Shoeboxes. I've always put the restrictor in the block, when using a bypass filter.

Re: 8BA oil filter disconnected; trouble?

Make sure you are 100% sure it is a bypass filtering system. I don't know why you would lose your pressure sensor when you disconnected it.
Bypass filters will leak if there is no restrictor on the...

Re: Clutch won’t release

The main ingredient in WD40 is oil. Paraffin or kerosine.

Re: Clutch won’t release

I wouldn't use WD40 or any petroleum based lubricant. Any oil that comes into contact with clutch/brake linings is asking for trouble.

Re: 1941 Steering Column Shaft Removal

I'm just thinking out loud, I have built from scratch, a rack and pinion housing to convert from RH to LH drive. Still used the same gears. you should be able to swap out the the RHD worm without...

Re: 59A Head Gaskets-ios there a left and Right Side

The heads don't have a left or right. The gaskets have a front and back. It can be confusing, especially with the copper gaskets. Because one side looks different than the other. However it's not...

Re: 59A Head Gaskets-ios there a left and Right Side

There is a small notch cut in the edge of the gaskets. This notch goes to the front.

Re: Remote oil filter- fill before install

The reason given to me was that if you prefill your filter you risk getting an air lock in your oil pump. Because after an oil change, you have to displace about 4oz of air on the intake side of the...

Re: 6-Volt Jump Start

OhioRick is correct. Connect the doner battery first. Put one lead anywhere on the body (ground terminal on the battery is fine) and the other lead you can just hold firmly on either end of the cable...

Re: speedway bullet-style spider cap wheel hub covers

Hi. Just looking at the kit components on the Speedway website, it appears that you just undo the nuts with a 13/16 socket. I'd recommend a 6point socket, just to be a bit gentler on the chrome.Most...

2) Remove the distributor cap ant turn the engine over by hand until the rotor...

Re: 8BA Truck oil Pan to install in 1946 Ford

You use the truck water pumps (8RT) bolted to your original engine mounts. and the wide belt to drive both pumps and the generator. I used the '46 fan. I'm not sure if I used the '46 crank pulley or...

Re: Dual Stromberg questions

It could be the power valve leaking in the carb that won't respond when you adjust the idle mixture screws. It happened to me on a brand new 97. You can test the power valve by putting it in your...

Re: 80 lb oil pump in 1935 flathead - is this okay?

If you have a 80 lb relief on the pump and a 50 lb relief in the block, your engine oil pressure will never go higher than 50. You don't have to change anything!

Re: Oil after break-in

VR1 is recommended because it has a high Zinc content which is beneficial for flat tappet engines. There are some on here that say we don't need it on our engines because of the low valve spring...

Re: WTB Full Flow Oil Conversion Kit

21stud. CORRECT!
I'd just like to add that if the internal filter bypass is open (which in reality will never happen with correct oil and filter changes at less than 10,000 miles) it will not effect...
