However, I recently removed the pan in order to check the shims on the mains and also to confirm the crank end play. The end play was way out and I decided to have the...

Re: Loud Noise when car decellerates while i n first and second gears

Mech 3,
I canít help, but I believe I have a similar problem. I think it is the crankshaft moving forward when the inertia of the car is driving the engine. Ie gearing down and using the engine to...

Hi Guys,
I have one of each. I can’t really compare them, as the Ford is a roadster pickup and the Chevy is a 29’ six cylinder Phaeton.
Ford built 5 million Model A cars in 4 years and must have...

Jumping out of gear will only get worse. Fix it while it is out.

Re: Anyone Ever Built or Even Seen, An Original type Greasing Pit?

Hi Guys,
I have dug and built 4 pits over the past 40 odd years. I have dug them all by myself, the last one at the age of 65. Once the hole is done, I build the walls, steps and floor with bricks...

Re: Disconnect switch

Hi Dean,
Some serious points to think about,
1. NEVER EVER admit or suggest that you want to, or have gone to 12v, positive, negative or whatever, NEVER EVER. You will never hear the end of it. I...

Re: oil level

Hi Killer,
You don’t want to drive it full of oil.
Quarter is just fine, the higher the oil level, the more chance of it leaking out the rear main. And if you must park on a hill, park nose down...

Re: Bendix Spring Snapped...Normal?

Hawk,
I have fitted 12 batteries in my 28 Pickup as well as in my 29 Chevy. The extra oomph causes the starter to kick in with a hell of a jolt. In the past five years or so, I have had a few broken...

Re: Rear end ratio-gear question

Hi John,
I have also replaced a 4.11 set with an unmatched 3.78 pair in my RPU. I got the two parts from two different guys, they looked like a match with no apparent wear. It runs smooth and quiet...

Re: crankshaft counterweights

Thanks Synchro,
Much appreciated.
The measurements you gave are obviously for the “de luxe” ones.
Do you perhaps have the measurements for the simple ones as well?

Not camping as such, but we have slept in the back of our 28 Pickup, in our hangar at Stellenbosch airfield.
